Position Summary
The Division of Digestive & Liver Diseases seeks a highly skilled Nurse Practitioner (NP) to provide comprehensive patient care and education within a highvolume outpatient gastroenterology practice. This full-time, Monday-Friday role primarily supports both the Outpatient Clinics and the Endoscopy Suites at The One.
The NP will independently evaluate patients, conduct histories and physicals, coordinate clinical care, manage pre and postendoscopy workflows, interpret diagnostic results, arrange procedures, obtain insurance authorizations, and maintain seamless communication among patients, families, referring physicians, and the care team.
Responsibilities
- Conduct initial and follow-up consultations, presenting clinical findings to attending GI physicians.
- Independently evaluate and manage patients in outpatient settings.
- Perform detailed histories and physical examinations.
- Order, interpret, and follow up on laboratory and diagnostic tests.
- Provide education to patients and families regarding procedures, diagnoses, and care plans.
- Communicate pre- and post-procedure instructions and coordinate follow-up care.
- Provide post-procedure assessments and arrange necessary follow-up appointments.
- Collaborate with attendings, fellows, residents, nursing staff, and administrative teams to ensure coordinated, high-quality patient care.
- Work closely with Endoscopy Suite nursing and support staff in all aspects of pre-, intra-, and post-procedure care.
- Schedule and coordinate procedures with GI staff and the pre-operative testing unit.
- Assist with patient transfers from outside hospitals and admissions following procedures, when needed.
- Ensure timely scheduling of outpatient follow-up appointments for discharged patients.
- Obtain insurance authorization for procedures, diagnostic testing, and medications.
- Conduct peer-to-peer reviews to support authorization approval when required.
- Participate in GI faculty educational sessions, case conferences, and performance improvement initiatives.
- Support faculty practice operations by addressing clinical questions from the front-line administrative team.
- Contribute to quality improvement and other departmental initiatives.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree or equivalent education and experience, plus 1-2 years of relevant clinical experience
- Current New York State NP (or proof of application) and RN licenses
- Board certification
- Eligible for DEA certification
- BLS certification
- Availability to work a full Monday-Friday schedule.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in gastroenterology and/or surgery practice
Other Requirements
- Medical clearance and participation in Medical Surveillance program
- Successful completion of applicable compliance and systems training requirements
