SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES JOB TITLE: Communications Manager II/Sr. REQUISITION: PUB000T DEPARTMENT: Corporate Communications - Internal Communications - Kansas City Headquarters LOCATION: Kansas City, MO PAY RANGE: Communications Mgr II: $66,600 - $83,200 Sr Communications Mgr: $84,500 - $112,600 Scheduled Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (Other hours as required) COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER In this role, the Communications Manager plays a critical role in helping employees understand and engage with company strategy and priorities. As a member of the Internal Communications team, the Communications Manager creates compelling and engaging stories about the people, projects and initiatives that power our organization. You will collaborate across the business to identify meaningful narratives, craft communications that resonate with diverse employee audiences and support enterprise-wide initiatives with clear, consistent messaging for internal audiences on Evergy's employee app, intranet, digital signage and other channels. What you'll do: * Strategic Storytelling * Serve as an internal communications account manager for multiple internal departments. * Identify and develop employee-centered stories that illustrate company strategy, culture, and values using internal channels (employee app, intranet, video, digital signage, email, presentations, etc.). * Translate complex business initiatives into accessible, engaging narratives for internal channels. * Content/Channel Management and Cross-Functional Teamwork * Support content planning for internal communications channels. * Track content performance metrics and employee engagement insights to improve communication effectiveness. * Ensure timely and effective communication with cross-functional departments to keep stakeholders informed and aligned. * Business Support * Participates in a rotating media on-call schedule in collaboration with the External Communications team, serving approximately four weeks per year in one-week intervals. * Develop business acumen and understanding of the company's purpose, people and operations. Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Requirements: A bachelor's degree in journalism, business communications, marketing or related field is highly preferred. Candidates must have at least two years of communications or marketing experience; those with four or more years are strongly preferred. The ideal candidate will have experience in the following: * Experience in a corporate setting or utility industry is preferred, but not mandatory * Experience working within employee content management systems such as FirstUp, Carousel, SharePoint, etc. * Demonstrated experience writing clear, engaging, and strategically aligned internal communications across multiple channels * Effective people skills and project management capabilities Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Required: * Strong storytelling ability - creates engaging content that focuses on people and supports company strategy * Understanding of corporate communications strategy and ability to recommend communications programs and tactical suggestions * Knowledge of and basic experience in visual communications (photography and video). Basic knowledge of design and video software. Creative eye with basic graphic design and video editing skills * Makes technical information easy to understand for internal audiences * Demonstrated attention to detail and follow-through and a strong commitment to continuous learning and effectively manages several projects across diverse subject areas * Highly adaptable - can thrive in a dynamic environment * Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with a variety of groups and cross-functionally * Ability to work outside of typical business hours and flex work schedule as needed Licenses, Certificates, Bonding and/or Testing Required: Must have a valid driver's license. Must have reliable, high-speed home internet.
