We have an exciting Safety Specialist opportunity in our KS, OK, CO or TX locations. In this highly impactful role, you will be a key member of the safety team. This role provides leadership to drive the safety initiatives for all animal support operations primarily focused on feed mills and the erm/maintenance group. Responsible for developing, implementing, and managing all safety compliance policies/procedures for animal support operations to ensure compliance with local, state and federal agencies and making continuous improvement to control incident and health exposures in the workplace.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Collaborate with animal support operation management and staff to ensure personnel have a working knowledge and understanding of OSHA regulations and standards to maintain a safe work environment.
- Develop, implement, and maintain a safety environment focused on employee involvement, safety performance, injury prevention, and continuous improvement. Collaborate with operational management to proactively implement employee safe work practices/behaviors.
- Develop, implement, and manage all animal support operations safety policies/procedures and records in accordance with local, state and federal regulations. Plan, implement, and coordinate an accident prevention program, to enhance our operational efficiencies.
- Design and conduct comprehensive safety audits and provide follow-up to ensure corrective action is identified and implemented.
- Drive timely completion of corrective actions associated with near-miss incidents, incident investigations and compliance.
- Develop and deliver training to supervisors/ managers on incident prevention and investigation of all near misses and injuries.
- Develop, coordinate, and lead the discussions with the appropriate senior management and supervisory personnel on all near misses and recordable injuries via an Incident Review Board to ensure root cause is identified and corrective action is implemented timely.
- Provide a review of all safety-related topics for the company's new hire orientation, to ensure new employees are introduced to our goals of a safe working environment.
- Present and review monthly safety performance statistics to senior management.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Required:
- Work experience in safety and proven track record of continuous improvement; developing safety policies and procedures; developing and delivery safety training to a wide audience and ability to "train the trainer"; OSHA, EPA, knowledge.
- Bachelor's Degree, preferred, including areas of safety study or related field of study or 3 years of safety experience.
- Manages Complexity -Ability to make sense of problems/issues and sometimes contradictory information to effectively solve when necessary.
- Decision Quality-Makes good and timely decisions that align with the organization.
- Optimizes Work Processes-Knows the most effective and efficient processes to get things done, with a focus on continuous improvement.
- Manages Conflict Handles conflict effectively, with a minimum of noise
Preferred:
- Bachelor's Degree, preferred, including areas of safety study or related field of study.
- Certifications: Preferred CSP, CIH, CHST, CSM, or equivalent; OSHA Outreach Trainer credentials and advanced RCA or investigation credentials preferred.
- Skills & Knowledge: Deep working knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR, EPA requirements, DOT (if applicable), industry best practices, PPE programs, LOTO, confined space, PIT programs, ergonomics, and process safety fundamentals. Proven ability to analyze and present safety metrics and lead corrective action programs.
SCHEDULE
- Monday- Friday with the exception of being able to respond to incidents in the evening hours and weekends if needed.

- The employee must regularly lift and move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 50
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Primarily an office environment with some need to work in the field.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts; and in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration.
- The noise level in the work environment depends on which environment you are in
- The hours and days of work are established by departmental needs and at the discretion of management. After-hours, weekends, and overnight travel as requested.
