Your Role on the Team

The Associate Vice Chancellor, UCI Health Advancement is responsible for providing leadership and strategic planning for Health Advancement programs and operations in coordination with UCI University Advancement in support of the UCI Health System and The Susan and Henry Samueli College of Health Sciences (CoHS), which includes the UCI School of Medicine, the Sue and Bill Gross School of Nursing, Joe C. Wen School of Population & Public Health, School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences, Susan Samueli Integrative Health Institute and numerous other centers, institutes, and research units. UCI Health Advancement raises approximately $100M annually in new gifts and commitments. This amount is expected to double in coming years. The AVC, Health Advancement will maintain a portfolio of 25 prospects and donors for cultivation and solicitation, focusing on individuals and entities with capacities of $5M or more.

The AVC, Health Advancement reports directly to the Vice Chancellor of University Advancement and Alumni Relations and is an integral member of the senior management team. This role also has a dotted reporting line to the Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs and works closely with the CEO of UCI Health and the Deans of the schools within CoHS.

The AVC, Health Advancement will mentor and coach the Health Advancement development
directors and their respective support staff through an annual planning process to solicit principal, major and annual gift donors and continually identify opportunities to strengthen, leverage and engage the UCI Health System's and Health Sciences' numerous advisory boards in meaningful ways. The AVC, Health Advancement provides primary direction to development officers and staff and strategic guidance to develop and implement annual performance plans and standards to achieve the fundraising and campaign goals.

In collaboration with UCI Strategic Communications and Marketing, and UCI Medical Center Communications, devise innovative methods for broadening the UCI Health Sciences visibility as centers for excellence and as significant philanthropic organizations, locally and nationally.


What It Takes to be Successful

Required:

  • Expert knowledge of all aspects of fundraising, donor and public relations, including principles, concepts, techniques and procedures.
  • Expert knowledge of design and implementation of donor identification, cultivation and solicitation strategies and techniques.
  • Expert skills to conceive, design, implement and evaluate effective fundraising programs.
  • Expert knowledge of leadership and management principles, concepts, techniques, etc.
  • Expert leadership / management skills, including skills to select, train, mentor, motivate and evaluate all levels of staff.
  • Expert written, oral and interpersonal communication skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships within all organizational levels and with outside constituencies.
  • Expert skills to meet predetermined goals and objectives, including meeting fundraising goals and objectives.
  • Expert level political acumen.
  • Expert strategic planning, critical thinking, analytical and persuasion / negotiation skills.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA and its requirements for advancement activities.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • Fifteen (15) years or more of demonstrated and documented experience with development program planning, including principal gifts and senior management.
  • Proven track record of success leading large advancement operations
  • Demonstrated progressively increasing responsibility in fundraising roles, including managing annual giving and major gifts as well as experience planning and implementing a multi-million campaign.
  • Proven history of major donor portfolio management, as well as the cultivation and solicitation of major gifts from individuals and from corporations and foundations.

Preferred:

  • Expert knowledge of the campus and / or medical center, its achievements, vision, mission, goals, objectives and issues of concern both on campus and / or medical center as well as in higher education and the medical sciences.
  • Expert marketing skills.
  • Working knowledge of foundations and non-profit, public benefit corporations.
  • Working knowledge of salesforce software
  • Experience in health sciences fundraising, preferably in an academic medical setting

Special Conditions:

  • Will be required to drive to perform the routine or essential job responsibilities
  • Will work occasional evenings and weekends

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $375,000- $400,000 (Annual).
