Albany Engineered Composites (AEC) is one of the most technically advanced designers and manufacturers of lightweight composite aerospace structures, subassemblies and components. The Manufacturing Engineering Lead coordinates and prioritizes the Manufacturing Engineering group's activities for the facility while maintaining compliance to customer, industry and Albany requirements. The lead maintains and improves Albany engineering processes and trains and mentors others in these and in engineering best practices, while inspiring a culture of collaboration, teamwork and a drive for cost effective engineering and maintenance. In addition to leading the group, the lead has engineering responsibilities including: designs and plans layout for such activities as machining/composite materials layout and assembly. Adapts machine or equipment design to factory and production conditions. Plans for the arrangement of machines within plant facilities to ensure most efficient and productive layout. Plans sequence of operations and specifies procedures for the fabrication of tools and equipment and other functions that affect product performance. May incorporate inspection and test requirements into the production plan.



Primary Responsibilities:



  • Lead, coordinate and prioritize engineering activity.
  • Coordinate solutions to technical problems.
  • Review and provide feedback to lower level engineer's work product.
  • Train and mentor engineers to technical and company processes.
  • Facilitate flow and communication between engineering and other groups.
  • Maintain, improve and train to Albany, customer and industry engineering design and life cycle processes.
  • Manage group related metrics (aging QN's, project ECD's, on time starts examples) and project status.
  • Provide input to performance appraisals.
  • Create a culture of working cooperatively with operations, engineering and leaders to create, optimize and maintain cost effective manufacturing.
  • Lead and support engineering related audits and metrics.

Experience/Education/Skills





      • BS/BA in Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or Equivalent (AE/CE/IE)
      • Demonstrated collaborative leadership of teams and co-workers and ability to motivate and engage others.
      • Minimum 7+ years of hands on experience in design and procurement of manufacturing engineering for complex aerospace layup, RTM, AFP, machining, assembly and transport in an aerospace team environment.
      • Managing, communicating and working to provided schedules, budgets and deadlines.
      • Experience in clearly communicating project requirements, design concepts and project status both verbally and written (Microsoft Office).



      Desired Skills:



      • DMAIC, DFSS, LEAN, PFMEA, Control Plans, SPC, Mistake Proofing, DOE, DFx
      • Root Cause and Corrective Action / Nonconformance Disposition (MRB)
      • Production and Assembly Environment (Composite Lay Up, Cure, Paint, and NDI)
      • Machine shop environment (Composite Machining) as a manufacturing engineer
      • New Product Development / New Business Development
      • Shop Planning Generation (MS Word Products, etc)
      • Working in/Leading a multi--disciplined team
      • GD&T
      • CATIA V5
      • Green Belt Certified a plus
      • Experience in Windchill, and SAP a plus
      • Aerospace manufacturing a plus
