The Robert N. Butler Columbia Aging Center (CAC), a university-wide center based at the Columbia Mailman School of Public Health, seeks a Staff Associate who has interest in population aging and healthy longevity. This role will support the Center's Director, Dr. Linda Fried, noted epidemiologist and aging expert. Dr. Fried's research has appeared in premier public health journals world-wide, and her work continues to impact public health policy discussions. Her current work explores the Third Demographic Dividend, Healthy Longevity, Experience Corps and the prevention of disability, and the production of a textbook and several series of articles. This role will provide scientific research and related administrative support.

RESPONSIBILITIES

60% - Research Support



  • Research and compile briefing memos on issues related to topics including, but not limited to, aging, chronic disease, and biosocial influences on health and healthy longevity
  • Perform literature reviews and synthesize research
  • Lead and assist in writing and editing of materials and manuscript preparation, submission and tracking
  • Lead and assist with the development and design of presentations for talks for conferences as well as before assemblies of leaders in science, industry and government
  • Manage data and conduct analyses


30% - Administrative Support



  • Provide administrative and technological support: prepare correspondence, maintain calendars and scheduling, arrange travel, coordinate meetings, events and other related activities


10% - Other



  • Perform additional related duties or special projects as assigned


  • Staff Associate I - Bachelor's degree in public health or scientific research field and 4 years experience preferred
  • Staff Associate II - Bachelor's degree in public health or scientific research field and 4 years of experience recommended
  • Staff Associate III - Bachelor's in public health or scientific research field and 4-6 years of experience
  • Senior Staff Associate I - Bachelor's degree in public health or scientific research field and 6 - 10 years of experience
  • Senior Staff Associate II - Bachelor's degree in public health or scientific research field and 10+ years of experience
  • Senior Staff Associate III - Bachelor's degree in public health or scientific research field and 15+ years of experience
  • Senior Staff Associate I, II & III - Master's degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in public health, epidemiology, biostatistics or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated interest in aging research a plus
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Expertise with technology (Office Suite, listservs, digital signage, photoshop/Canva, Zoom, web CMS such as Drupal)
  • Proficiency in statistical programming software (e.g., R, SAS, STATA)
  • Familiarity with IRB processes and data security practices
