Target hiring range for this position will be between $51,500 - $55,000 per year. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
Job Summary:
Under the administrative direction of the Assistant Director of Recreation Facilities & Operations, the Facility Coordinator assists with the daily operations of Henry Crown Sports Pavilion, Blomquist Recreation Center, Northwestern Medicine Field and Wilson Field in Ryan Fieldhouse, and provides seasonal administrative and operational support at the Northwestern University Sailing Center.
The Facility Coordinator supports safe, welcoming, and well-maintained recreation environments; assists with the day-to-day supervision of front-line student employees; and responds to patron questions or concerns independently and in a timely and professional manner. Through hands-on operational experience and ongoing mentorship from professional staff, this role contributes to the delivery of a high-quality recreation experience while developing skills in leadership, communication, and facility operations.
Work Schedule*:
- Academic Year (September-May), Tuesday-Thursday from 12pm-8pm and Friday-Saturday 9am-5pm
- Summar Quarter (June-August), Monday-Friday from 9am-5pm.
- Hours may vary throughout the year based on the operational needs, especially during NUSC peak season.
Please note: Willingness and ability to work a non-traditional schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays as required
Specific Responsibilities:
- Provide on-site operational support and serve as the initial point of contact for staff and patrons and taking appropriate action to address operational, safety, and customer service issues as they arise at Henry Crown Sports Pavilion, Blomquist Recreation Center, and athletic fields.
- Assist with hiring, training, scheduling, and supervision of student and temporary employees.
- Support facility monitoring efforts to help ensure policies and procedures are followed, and safe environments are maintained; manage safety or operational concerns and escalate to professional staff as needed.
- Build positive working relationships with students, facility members, and staff; assist with addressing requests and resolving concerns in a prompt and professional manner.
- Respond to patron inquiries and complaints regarding policies, procedures, and programs in a courteous, knowledgeable, and professional manner.
- Provide administrative and operational support to the Northwestern University Sailing Center (NUSC), including assisting with onboarding of temporary staff during spring and summer quarters.
- As directed, assist with NUSC camps, clinics, rentals, and special events.
- Collaborate with University departments and units to create recreational opportunities and partnerships that enhance the physical and emotional well-being of the campus community.
- Responsible for adhering to all Department and University continuing education initiatives and required certifications and trainings.
- Responsible for adhering to all Department and University policies and procedures, as well as the rules, regulations, bylaws and interpretations of the Big Ten Conference and the NCAA.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in related field or appropriate combination of education and experience.
Experience in recreation facility operations, customer service, recreation programs, or a related field in a collegiate or community recreation setting.

Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
Strong verbal and written communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to lift over 50 pounds and assist with moving equipment, including overheard lifting, as needed.
CPR, AED, and First Aid Instructor Level Certifications through Red Cross, or willingness to obtain within first year of employment.
Ability to work cooperatively with others and effectively interact with diverse populations.
Ability to establish engaging relationships within and across racialized and other marginalized communities.
Preferred Qualifications:
1-3 years of experience supervising or supporting student or part-time staff in a recreational setting.
Experience in outdoor recreation programs, camps, sailing, climbing, route setting, trip planning, or related activities.
US Sailing and/or US Powerboating Safe Powerboat Handling and Safety Rescue Instructor certification preferred, or willingness to obtain within the first year of employment.
Knowledge of registration software systems such as Fusion.
Knowledge of rules and regulations of the NCAA, Big Ten Conference and Northwestern University.
