We are seeking a motivated and innovative Senior Scientist to join our dynamic R&D team. In this role, you will contribute to the development of cutting-edge diagnostic solutions, leveraging your expertise to drive assay development and validation projects. Collaboration is key, as you will interface with cross-functional teams, including bioinformatics, biostatistics and data science, clinical operations, software, automation, project management, manufacturing, regulatory and QA. Proficiency in molecular biology methods for nucleic acid characterization and related applications is essential, along with a critical and creative approach to problem-solving.

Responsibilities:



  • Evaluate and optimize materials and processes within the Chemistry R&D team using HPLC, PCR and sequencing methods
  • Initiate, design, and execute experiments to develop and/or improve high-value novel technology for development of diagnostic tests
  • Serve as an internal team expert in cell biology including live/dead cells, primary blood cells, renal epithelial cells, extracellular vesicles, and FFPE tissue samples
  • Evaluate novel sample prep and preservation methods in whole blood and urine samples.
  • Develop DNA and RNA extraction techniques from different types of cells such as T-cells, B-cells, monocyte/macrophage and EVs
  • Use molecular biology approaches to independently develop and optimize assays for chemistry technology development
  • Perform HPLC analysis of nucleosides, nucleotides and oligonucleotides
  • Provide expert support and guidance regarding experiment design, data analysis, and results to the broader scientific teams. Participate in troubleshooting
  • Participate in drafting invention disclosures and SOPs for production and testing methods with knowledge input in QC/QA requirements
  • Participate in design, initiation, and execution of experiments with the development team to enhance and automate high-value diagnostic tests


Qualifications:



  • BS or MS in bioengineering or biomedical fields with deep practical knowledge of molecular biology with significant industrial experience (8-12 years) supported by strong publications/patent applications record. Technology development experience in Life Sciences and implementation of new methods and materials into operations is preferred
  • Solid foundation in molecular biology, with hands-on experience in NGS library preparation and Illumina sequencing platforms. Familiarity with targeted RNASeq for differential gene expression using NGS is a plus
  • Strong practical knowledge of handling blood samples and products including PBMC isolation, primary human blood cell magnetic sorting and analysis, fluorescence microscopy experience
  • Experience with common chemistry analytical techniques HPLC, FPLC, Flow Cytometry, good general knowledge of chemistry and safe handling of chemicals
  • Expertise in nucleic acid and plasma cell-free DNA extraction techniques including practical skills in lab automation such as liquid handling instruments
  • Strong interdisciplinary communication skills to foster collaboration and effective knowledge exchange
  • Excellent organizational skills with acute attention to detail, ensuring high-quality outputs in a fast-paced environment

This is the anticipated base salary range for candidates who will work in Brisbane, California. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include, but are not limited to, the type and length of experience within the job, the type and length of experience within the industry, education, etc. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives and restricted stock units. CareDx is a multi-state employer, and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states.
