The Omaha Health & Welfare practice was started 24 years ago to serve large employers in the design and administration of their employee benefit insurance plans. The atmosphere is business casual with 70 other professionals in an upscale office setting at 180th and Dodge Street in Omaha, Nebraska.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Chief Operating Officer will play a central role in safeguarding and strengthening the long-term success of our practice, with direct oversight of Bavvy Operations. This role carries responsibility not only for day-to-day execution, but for the operational discipline, leadership development, and client stewardship that sustain the firm's reputation and profitability.

Our clients rely on precision, responsiveness, and sound guidance. The COO will ensure that internal systems, team performance, and service delivery consistently meet that standard.

Profit Center Primary Focus Areas



  1. Strengthening client retention through disciplined operational oversight and consistent service delivery.
  2. Driving process improvement initiatives to meet or exceed client expectations and the associated financial impact.
  3. Supporting continued revenue growth by aligning operations with sales commitments and long-term account success.
  4. Developing emerging leaders and building a strong pipeline of talent for future growth.
  5. Preserving and reinforcing company culture while establishing clear succession planning for organizational continuity.


Management of Bavvy Operations
Provide executive oversight of all Bavvy Operations, ensuring alignment, accountability, and performance across all cross-functional departments. This includes establishing clear expectations, reinforcing operational discipline, and ensuring that each team has the leadership and support necessary to execute at a high level.

Responsibilities include:



  • Lead and coordinate all cross-functional Bavvy departments to operate as a unified, accountable organization
  • Establish clear performance standards, workflows, and communication protocols across teams
  • Support department leaders with structure, coaching, and operational clarity
  • Identify resource gaps and realign staffing to meet service demands and growth objectives
  • Standardize processes to ensure consistency, accuracy, and efficiency
  • Monitor key operational metrics and intervene early when performance trends decline
  • Remove operational obstacles that prevent staff from delivering exceptional client service
  • Reinforce a culture of ownership, professionalism, and follow-through across all teams
  • Ensure new hires are properly integrated and positioned for long-term success


QUALIFICATIONS



  • Bachelor of Arts or Science degree
  • Master of Business degree preferred but not required
  • Previous experience within health insurance preferred but not required
  • Five years' experience as Operations Manager preferred


SKILLS & ABILITIES



  • Exceptional finance and accounting abilities
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Excel, including pivot tables, database management, and report formatting
  • Previous experience with database programs such as MS Access and SQL a plus
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to portray a professional image consistent with Milliman's role as a consultant with phone calls, e-mails, and other correspondence.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail to manage multiple projects at the same time.
  • Ability to work independently within a team-based consulting environment.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and offer input.
  • Flexibility with a customer first attitude.


LOCATION

This position is based out of the Milliman office in Omaha, Nebraska. Candidates hired into this role must be willing to work onsite full-time.
