Lead Snowflake Engineer Location: Downtown Minneapolis, MN Work Model: Onsite 4 days per week Industry: Financial Services Role Overview RBC is seeking a Lead Snowflake Engineer to support and lead the U.S. organization's migration to Snowflake. While the Canadian enterprise has already begun its Snowflake journey, U.S.-based teams are preparing to migrate multiple disparate data platforms to Snowflake starting in 2025. This role will serve as a technical leader and subject matter expert for Snowflake, guiding best practices, educating team members, and leading a team of data engineers through the migration and ongoing platform maturation. The Lead Snowflake Engineer will partner closely with a Snowflake Architect and play a key role as the organization continues to mature its data domains and data management practices. This position requires working onsite in downtown Minneapolis four (4) days per week. Key Responsibilities * Act as the technical lead and Snowflake subject matter expert for the U.S. data platform migration * Lead, mentor, and provide technical direction to a team of data engineers * Partner closely with a Snowflake Architect to design and implement scalable, secure data solutions * Support the development and maturation of data domains, including domain-based consumption models * Guide best practices for data modeling, data quality, and data management * Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into scalable data solutions * Troubleshoot and optimize Snowflake performance and usage * Design and support batch and real-time ingestion and transformation pipelines Required Qualifications * Strong understanding of Cloud Data Lakehouse architecture patterns * Hands-on experience implementing Cloud Data Lakehouse solutions, including: * Snowflake performance tuning and troubleshooting * Deep understanding of Snowflake data storage, security, and infrastructure * Proven experience leading, mentoring, or providing technical guidance to data engineering teams (formal leadership title not required) * Experience working with business partners to define and develop data domains * Strong background in data warehousing and data management * Advanced proficiency in SQL, including complex queries and stored procedures * Automation and scripting experience * 3-5 years of hands-on Snowflake experience, including: * Role-based access control and user security * Snowflake features such as SnowSQL, Snowpipe, Streams, and Tasks * Designing solutions using Snowflake-native capabilities * Data ingestion and transformation * Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS and/or Azure * Strong foundation in data engineering principles, tools, and best practices Preferred / Additional Skills * Financial services industry experience (nice to have) * Data modeling, data quality, and data governance experience * Experience building domain-based consumption assets and curated data models * (Current state includes consuming application data without sufficient modeling or cleansing) * Python development experience * ETL experience (Informatica Cloud exposure is a plus) * Understanding of both batch and real-time data pipelines * Familiarity with one or more of the following: * Relational and non-relational databases * ETL / ELT tools * On-prem and cloud data storage * Big data technologies * Machine learning concepts * Data security * Data visualization tools Employment Requirements * Must be able to work onsite in downtown Minneapolis four (4) days per week * Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future * Must be able to convert to full-time employment Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Minneapolis, MN.
