Chassis Dynamics Development Engineer II
- The multidisciplinary chassis dynamics group focuses on chassis dynamic performance development includes high performance vehicles lateral/vertical dynamics, designated hardware based lateral dynamics active control, trailer towing stability in all weather and road conditions found in North America.
- The group's main function of testing, calibrating, and developing the passive and active chassis dynamic performance of HMG vehicles aligns with our corporate goal of delivering the best vehicles for the North American customer through regional technical leadership and global collaboration.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Chassis dynamics development includes handling focused active chassis control performance development (e-LSD, e-AWD, Rear Wheel Steering, Steer By Wire, etc.)
- High performance vehicle on road (track) & off road (baja/desert running) chassis dynamic performance development
- Trailer towing dynamics and stability control performance development
- Advanced research activities include objective test/analysis, simulation, and control logic development
- Develop in-house testing as needed, specifying and procuring instrumentation and conducting test trials.
- Develop/conduct objective test and analysis following National Highway Traffic Safety Association (NHTSA) test procedures and major media test procedure
- Conduct objective benchmarking of competitive vehicles and Hyundai/Kia at specified development "gateway points."
- Conduct customer feedback research to understand customer requirement. Understand and translate HMC, KMC, HMA, and KMA product vision for Vehicle Dynamics into actual vehicle performance.
- Support all chassis research & development activities at the Proving Ground.
- Work in a team environment as well as independently. Mentor junior level engineers.
- Support manufacturing organization with pre-launch activities through plant visits. Support special problem assessment and countermeasure recommendations.
- Attend industry sponsored Conferences & Trainings, and Vendor Demonstrations to review and continuously improve chassis components and systems.
- Create and present technical reports as assigned.
- Collaborate with Chassis/Brake and NVH Engineers to develop and improve ESC and Chassis Dynamics Control performance for HMG vehicles as needed.
- May be required to install suspension related parts or tires on vehicles or to direct technicians to perform installations.
- Perform additional chassis development projects as assigned.
- Travel up to 40% of time domestically and internationally.
- Assist in planning and monitoring of department budget.
- Perform administrative functions such as purchasing requests, timecard, vacation requests, travel requests, etc.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field of study
- 10+ years of vehicle dynamics and control area engineering experience - chassis control / highperformance chassis dynamics
- Strong understanding of vehicle dynamics, control system development, and chassis performance development
- 5+ years of experience in vehicle stability, controllability, and traction performance development
- 3+ years of experience managing engineers and leading chassis control performance development
- Highperformance driving skills and strong subjective evaluation skills
- Background in prototype vehicle onroad testing and performance measurement
- Experience working in a culturally diverse team environment
- Knowledge of automotive industry engineering and manufacturing
- Knowledge of electrified vehicle architecture, brakebywire, and regenerative braking systems
- Knowledge of project management principles and practices
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and capability
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality, integrity, and ethical behavior
- Proficient driving skills
- Expert technical reportwriting skills
- Proficient with data acquisition systems and sensing equipment, including CAN bus data acquisition
- Proficient project management skills
- Proficient in MS Office - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
- Strong timemanagement and organizational skills
- Effective selfmanagement skills
- Proficient oral and written communication skills
- Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record
