Silgan Containers is looking for an experienced Tool & Die Machinist to join our manufacturing team. Starting Pay: $34.08 per hour + On-Call Pay

What You'll Do

As a Tool & Die Machinist, you'll work with precision tooling, measuring equipment, and machine shop equipment to support high-quality manufacturing production.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Perform tool and die machining using blueprints, technical drawings, written procedures, and verbal instructions
  • Work to strict manufacturing tolerances to ensure tooling and components meet quality and performance requirements
  • Operate CNC grinders, mills, lathes, surface grinders, welders, plasma cutters, and other machine shop equipment
  • Repair, rebuild, refurbish, and maintain production tooling and measuring instruments
  • Troubleshoot tooling and mechanical problems and determine appropriate repairs or corrective actions
  • Rebuild and repair tooling used in high-speed can manufacturing machinery
  • Inspect incoming tooling and perform quality checks to ensure components meet specifications
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical manuals, and machining specifications
  • Calculate raw material requirements and select the appropriate cutting tools, measuring instruments, jigs, fixtures, and equipment
  • Use precision measuring equipment including micrometers, calipers, and other inspection tools
  • Work closely with Engineers, Supervisors, and Mechanics to identify defective parts, tooling issues, and equipment problems
  • Maintain and overhaul gearboxes, pumps, and other production equipment as needed
  • Catalog, organize, and issue production tooling to support efficient manufacturing operations
  • Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) and all other required safety procedures
  • Work as part of a team to continuously improve safety, quality, reliability, and productivity
What We're Looking For

We're looking for a skilled machinist or tool and die professional who enjoys hands-on work, precision machining, troubleshooting, and solving mechanical problems.

Required:

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent; trade school training may be considered in place of experience
  • 2-5 years of machinist experience, preferably in a manufacturing or tool room environment
  • Experience using precision measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers
  • Ability to operate machine shop equipment such as mills, lathes, surface grinders, welders, and related equipment
  • Ability to read and work from blueprints, technical drawings, and manuals
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and maintain high-quality standards
  • Dependable attendance and commitment to safe work practices
Experience That Can Make You a Great Fit:

Candidates with experience as a Tool & Die Maker, Tool & Die Machinist, Manual Machinist, Precision Machinist, Maintenance Machinist, Machine Builder, or Manufacturing Machinist are encouraged to apply.

Experience with CNC grinding, machining, tooling repair, precision measurement, metalworking, mechanical troubleshooting, or high-speed manufacturing equipment is especially valuable.
