Department Summary The Department of Laboratory Animal Medicine (DLAM) is committed to providing UNT Health faculty, staff, students and other partners with high quality, cost-effective research bio-resources. DLAM has a dedicated and experienced staff that contributes to the HSC's exemplary program of animal care and use. DLAM provides veterinary and personnel training and expertise in laboratory animal medicine and technology. Position Overview The Lab Animal Attendant provides essential animal care and husbandry support within a regulated research environment. This role is responsible for the daily care, monitoring, and sanitation of laboratory animals and their housing, ensuring animal health, welfare, and environmental conditions meet established standards. The attendant performs skilled husbandry tasks in both conventional and specialized housing areas, operates and processes animal housing equipment, and supports institutional compliance with state, federal, and accreditation requirements. The position works collaboratively with veterinary, research, and animal care staff to promote high standards of animal welfare, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED and two (2) years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Preferred Qualifications The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications: Required License/Registration/Certifications Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) certification by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) is required within one year of employment.
