GENERAL FUNCTION

The Senior Manager, State and Local Taxes (SALT) is responsible for managing and overseeing U.S. state and local tax audits, risk management, and planning initiatives within a complex, multinational environment. This role partners closely with internal stakeholders and external advisors to ensure compliance with state and local tax laws, manage audits and controversy matters, support financial reporting, and develop tax strategies that optimize the company's overall SALT position while mitigating risk.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Lead and coordinate U.S. state and local tax audit and controversy matters, serving as a primary point of contact with state and local taxing authorities.
  • Manage SALT audit-related financial statement reporting under IAS 12, including the identification, documentation, and monitoring of uncertain tax positions.
  • Develop and implement state and local tax planning initiatives to minimize tax exposure, manage risk, and improve cash flow efficiency.
  • Provide technical SALT guidance and strategic advice to internal stakeholders, proactively identifying audit risks and recommending mitigation strategies.
  • Support special projects, including acquisitions, restructurings, entity integrations, and other strategic business initiatives from a SALT perspective.
  • Advise management on the impact of state and local tax matters related to corporate strategies, business changes, and new or evolving tax legislation.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and increased efficiency through standardization, automation, and enhanced use of tax technology.
  • Manage relationships with external advisors, auditors, and taxing authorities to ensure effective and cost-efficient support.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and mentorship to team members, fostering technical development, accountability, and continuous improvement.


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS



  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field; CPA preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive state and local tax experience, including leadership experience within public accounting and/or a corporate tax department.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. state and local income/franchise, gross receipts, and sales/use tax laws.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and executing SALT strategies and supporting successful audit resolutions.
  • Excellent research, writing, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, multinational organization.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal partners and state and local taxing authorities.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS



  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex tax regulations and manage audit and controversy matters.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly explain and defend tax positions to non-tax stakeholders and senior leadership.
  • Strategic mindset with sound judgment and decision-making skills related to tax planning, audit management, and risk mitigation.
  • Proven project management skills with the ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Tax software experience preferred: CorpTax and ONESOURCE Tax Provision (or similar).
  • Additional software experience preferred: Microsoft Office Suite, SAP, Oracle, Essbase, Adobe, Hyperion.

Pay Range:156,068.00-214,036.40
