Position Summary
The Medical Lab Technician's primary responsibility will be the support of the UNC CTU Lab Operations. This position will be responsible for specimen collection, processing, and shipment, maintenance of electronic and paper-based research records and regulatory documents in accordance with Federal, State, and local regulations, as well as GCLP. The Lab Tech will work as part of a team and support the Investigators of Record, the Research Coordinator(s), and other research team members.

The Lab Tech's main work location will be on UNC-Chapel Hill's campus, processing samples in UNC's main shared outpatient research clinic, the CTRC, as well as the Advanced Technology Laboratory Core ( ATLAB) of the UNC CFAR. Travel to other local sites (such as UNC's Eastowne Outpatient Clinic) may also be required, depending on the unit's current needs. This position will provide support to our entire Infectious Disease Research Portfolio.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency and one year of laboratory experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Some positions may require compliance with current Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments ( CLIA) regulations.
Management Preferences

  • Experience with logging, labelling, and shipping samples via the Laboratory Data Management System (LDMS) information system.
  • Experience with DAIDS (Division of AIDS) or other similar NIH network laboratory processing SOPs.
  • Previous completion of GCLP (Good Clinical Lab Practice) training.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and efficiently in a fast-paced environment, multitask, and reorganize tasks according to shifting priorities.
  • Valid driver's license.

Required Licenses/Certifications
Special Physical/Mental Requirements
Stay stationary for periods of about an hour at a time, with or without accommodation.

Move box racks in and out of freezers and/or boxes of laboratory supplies that weigh approximately 20 to 30 pounds, with or without accommodation.
