Job Summary

The Student Services Specialist Senior will assist new and continuing students in career planning, goal-setting, and job seeking strategies. This position will guide students in utilizing career assessments and tools in career exploration and then aligning their choice of major and field of interest to their career goals. The position designs and facilitates workshops aimed at career readiness, employment seeking strategies, and professional skill-building. Additional duties include conducting student appointments, hosting career fairs and events, participating in district wide or college Career Services initiatives, and collaborating with other student services departments to support student success. This position requires the ability to work independently as well as within a team.

Essential Functions

30% - Supporting Students
  • Provides professional career advisement to support career exploration & job seeking strategies such as resume/cover letter writing, interview preparation, professional networking, job search techniques, and finding work-based experiences.
  • Provide proactive outreach to undecided or other cohorts of students
  • Meets with students face-to-face and virtually to provide services
  • Monitors, tracks, and reports student data to support reporting assessment and continuous improvement.
  • Implements strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills to resolve more complex student services concerns


30% Coordinating Events & Workshops
  • Coordinates projects, events & activities such as career fairs, employer events, & student outreach
  • Creates and facilitates orientations and workshops
  • Designs and updates career materials and resources
  • Collaborates with faculty to embed career exploration & readiness into courses by designing and facilitating in-class workshops as well as consult with faculty on corresponding class assignments


30% - Collaboration with Employers and Departments
  • Hosts employers and community partners for on-campus & virtual events, information sessions, panels, and other opportunities to connect with students from jobs & work-based experiences
  • Maintain accurate employer participation records and communication
  • Collaborates with other student support departments to assist students in career-related topics
  • Creates and facilitates FWS orientations, and advises students on the application process and alignment of FWS positions with major and career goals

10% - Other
  • May provide training to Career Services team members
  • May coordinate office workflow
  • Confers with other CGCC, district, and external partners to meet the needs of students
  • Creates or updates department materials and resources
  • Other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications

Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution and two years of student services or college teaching experience or experience assisting with educational program development and coordination, student advisement, financial aid, or related student development programs.

OR

An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.

Desired Qualifications

1. Bachelor's degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution.
2. One or more years of experience working in Career Services/Student Services in a college or university setting, workforce development or professional training.
3. Experience administering career assessments and assisting students/job seekers with career exploration tools and resources (such as O*Net Interest profiler, Career One Stop, or Job Scan)
4. Experience tracking and reporting data
5. Experience cultivating partnerships with employers/community organization, coordinating job recruitment, or coordinating internships or other work-based experiences
6. Experience developing and presenting group presentations, workshops, or orientations.
7. Proficient technology skills including Google Suite or Microsoft Office Suite, career services management databases (such as handshake or simplicity), and other computer skills.
8. One year of relevant full-time MCCCD experience during the previous two years.

**** Experience within other community college systems or higher education institutions is valued and may be considered in addition to MCCCD experience. External candidates are encouraged to apply.

Special Working Conditions
