About the role

Belden Inc. is hiring aProfessional Services Engineer (PSE)to support a major U.S. customer in the Greater Boston area and throughout the US. This role is ideal for a hands-on engineer who enjoys owning projects end-to-end-network assessment, design, configuration, field deployment, commissioning, documentation, and customer handoff-in industrial/operational environments where uptime and safety matter.

You'll work at the intersection ofindustrial wired/wireless networking, OT security, and field execution, partnering with customer stakeholders, controls/SCADA teams, ISPs/carriers, and internal Belden teams to bring critical sites online reliably and securely.

Location:Greater Boston, MA (onsite/hybrid at one of Belden Inc.'s largest wired/wireless customers in the U.S.)

What you'll do



  • Assess and designOT/industrial network architectures for distributed sites, including topology selection, resiliency, segmentation, and standards.
  • Produce high-quality deliverables:network diagrams, IP plans, port maps, BOMs, as-builts, and commissioning runbooks.
  • Configure, stage, and deployindustrial switches and network/security infrastructure in multi-vendor environments.
  • Engineer and troubleshootL2 resiliency(e.g., MRP, RSTP/STP) andVLANdesigns in real-world field conditions.
  • Implement and supportfirewall policies, segmentation, and secure connectivity.
  • Coordinate turn-up activities withcustomers, ISPs/carriers, field teams, and SCADA/controls groupsto bring sites online.
  • Performcommissioning, validation, and QA/QC, including root-cause troubleshooting during cutovers.
  • Support pre-sales and delivery quality byreviewing proposals/designs, identifying risks, and correcting architecture recommendations before deployment.
  • Track time and work execution in a services environment, includingbillable/non-billable timeand project status updates.



What you bring (required)



  • 4+ years of hands-on experience innetwork engineeringwith a strong emphasis ondesign + deployment + troubleshooting(industrial/OT and wired/ wireless preferred).
  • Strong knowledge ofEthernet switching and routing fundamentalsin production environments:
  • VLANs/802.1Q, trunking, STP/RSTP; comfort discussing failure modes and convergence.
  • Practical L2/L3 troubleshooting skills (packet/port-level thinking).
  • Experience designing or supportingresilient industrial network topologies(ring/redundancy concepts required; MRP is a strong plus).
  • Experience withfirewalls and VPNsin production networks (Fortinet / Palo Alto / Cisco or similar):
  • Policy design, NAT concepts, site-to-site VPN troubleshooting.
  • Comfortable working with customer stakeholders and producing professional documentation.
  • Willingness to travel 50-60%and work hybrid/ on-site in Greater Boston as required by customer/project needs.



Preferred qualifications?



  • Industrial/OT networking experience supportingSCADA/controls environments(PLCs, RTUs, inverters, trackers, historians, etc.).
  • Experience withindustrial switching vendors, especially:
  • Hirschmann(CT1/CT2 highly desired), plus familiarity withMoxaor similar.
  • Experience with fiber network design and field realities (e.g., link budgeting/loss calculations, structured fiber documentation).
  • Familiarity with wireless fundamentals and willingness to grow into site survey/design responsibilities (Ekahau-style workflows a plus).
  • Exposure toMPLSconcepts (helpful for specific customer networks; can be trained).
  • Scripting/automation mindset (Python/PowerShell/Ansible) and a track record of building standards/templates/SOPs.



What success looks like (first 6-12 months)



  • You can independently deliverrepeatable, high-quality OT network designsand commissioning packages.
  • You reliably bring sites online-clean documentation, predictable outcomes, fast troubleshooting.
  • You proactively identify and correct architecture risks (including pre-sales/proposal inputs) before they become field issues.
  • You become a trusted technical partner for the customer and a go-to PSE inside Belden delivery teams.

Applicants can expect a base compensation range of $110,000 - $160,000.00, plus benefits and additional incentives based on the level of the role. This is the reasonable estimate that Belden believes it might pay for this job based on applicable circumstances at the time of posting. Belden may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range as permitted by law, and commensurate with the applicant's experience, qualifications, and geographical location.
