This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

We are looking for a Project Engineer located at Launch Site One (LSO) to act as the on-site Project Lead ensuring all Lunar Core Components work requiring testing in Texas has full alignment from the associated Texas Test and Operations teams. This person will identify opportunities to consolidate separate testing requests to maximize existing test facilities and drive the development of additional capabilities where needed.

This individual will be responsible for ensuring that product teams and test engineers supporting from Washington, Alabama, and Florida are able to perform required testing at LSO. This person will serve as the on-site representative of the Lunar Core Components Test team and will report directly to that team's director.

An ideal candidate is highly organized, a self-starter, curious and solution oriented, able to see the bigger picture while also managing to the details across the full project lifecycle.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, manage, and maintain theschedule for Lunar Core Components Testingat Launch Site One, including but not limited to:
    • Pumps
    • Zero gravity propellant management devices
    • Separation systems testing
  • Define and managescope, schedule, and budgetfor all component-level activities, ensuring alignment with overall program objectives
  • Serve as theprimary point of contact and coordination hubbetween design, analysis, manufacturing, test, and supply chain teams to ensure seamless execution
  • Establish, track, and report onKPIs and technical metricsrelated to team progress, hardware delivery, and budget performance
  • Develop and maintaindashboards and reportsfor regular status updates to program leadership and key stakeholders
  • Facilitate technical and programmatic meetings, drivingcross-functional decision-makingand resolving programmatic roadblocks
  • Proactively identify, track, and mitigateproject risks and opportunities, and develop robust action plans
  • Coordinate with internal ground support development, operations, and test teams to ensure test sites and test events aredelivered on time and to specification
  • Lead project planning for major reviews and readiness evaluations:SRR, PAR, PDR, CDR, TRR

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in an engineering discipline (Mechanical, Aerospace, or related).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in an engineering role, preferably with aerospace hardware or complex technical systems, including some aspect of product development.
  • Experience in managing projects involving the design, development, and delivery of complex hardware systems.
  • Demonstrated experience creating and managing schedules, budgets, and integrated project plans.
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally and coordinate between multiple technical teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience presenting project status to various levels of leadership.

Desired:

  • Experience with hazardous systems.
  • Experience managing projects in the aerospace industry, particularly with flight hardware for launch vehicles or spacecraft.
  • Experience managing a portfolio of aerospace components such as pumps, valves, actuators, mechanisms, or tanks.
  • Proficiency with project management software such as MS Project, Primavera P6, or Jira.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and use metrics to drive team performance and make data-driven decisions.
  • Experience managing relationships and schedules across time zones and sites.

  • Required for Certain Job Profiles: Drivers who operate Commercial Motor Vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW), Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) or combination of power unit and trailer that meets or exceeds 10,001 lbs. and/or transports placardable amounts of hazardous materials by ground in any vehicle on a public road while in commerce, may be subject to additional Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations including: Driver Qualification Files, Medical Certification (obtained before onboarding), Road Test, Hours of Service, Drug and Alcohol Testing (CDL drivers only), vehicle inspection requirements, CDL requirements (if applicable) and hazardous materials transportation/shipping training.

  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
