LEAD VIDEO & VOICE SYSTEMS ENGINEER

SpaceX is looking for a Lead Video & Voice Systems Engineer that will lead a team of administrators and engineers to design, install, maintain, and fully own the video and voice communications systems at our launch and test facilities. You'll be tightly integrated with the engineering teams that design our rockets and spacecraft as well as with our Emmy award-winning webcast team on the launch and event broadcasts for the company. This role requires excellent leadership skills, hands-on technical contribution, an action-oriented disposition, flexibility, and the propensity to flourish in a fast-paced and challenging environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Manage the day-to-day activities/priorities of the team.
  • Provide primary input for hiring, termination, promotion, performance, and reward decisions for direct reports.
  • Lead a team of highly skilled IT professionals responsible for implementing and maintaining IT infrastructure that directly supports SpaceX's launch operations.
  • Provide coaching and mentorship to other members of the SpaceX team, fostering team cohesion, knowledge redundancy and professional growth.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to distill requirements and design effective IT solutions that support the entire launch lifecycle from pre-flight preparations to post-launch analysis and recovery operations.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to bolster the reliability of IT systems and advance team efficiency -- change management, performance metrics, monitoring, preventative maintenance, incident handling, customer request handling, etc.
  • Oversee and participate in the day-to-day operation of IT systems, ensuring seamless functionality and reliability during critical launch windows.
  • Be an extreme owner of video, voice and network hardware including product selection, procurement, configuration, install, and troubleshooting.
  • Closely collaborate with stakeholders and engineers across programs to create highly operable, scalable, and maintainable products.


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, electrical engineering, or other STEM discipline and 5+ years professional video, voice and/or networking engineering experience OR 7+ years professional video, voice and/or networking engineering experience without a degree.


PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:



  • Experience leading or managing direct/indirect reports in a team environment.
  • Expertise with video broadcast equipment such as video routers, IP video, cameras, audio mixers, voice matrices, video switchers, and wireless two-way radios.
  • Understanding and experience with broadcast networking transports such as SMPTE ST 2110, AES67, Dante, SRT, RTSP, SIP, and WebRTC.
  • Advanced knowledge of OSI model and network standards.
  • Hands on networking experience with the following:

    • Arista and Cisco Catalyst data center class switches
    • Fiber optics and wave division multiplexing
    • DNS, DHCP, PTP, SNMP, LACP, IGMP, PIM-SM




ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:



  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to work in tight quarters and physical dexterity is necessary to preform job functions.
  • Availability for extended hours and/or weekends, as the schedule varies depending on site operational needs; flexibility is required.
  • Ability to provide 24x7 on-call support in emergency situations.
  • Availability for occasional travel, as required (<25%).
  • Position is subject to pre-employment and (as applicable) periodic background, drug, and alcohol testing.
  • Ability to pass Air Force background check for Cape Canaveral and Vandenberg Space Force Base.
