What Your Job Will Be Like

We are seeking a Electronic Security Systems Technologist.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Perform a variety of duties in support of technical electronic activities associated with various security systems and their components including physical security activities.
  • Design, install, configure, and operate physical and technical security systems.
  • Be part of the team of key personnel to plan, test, troubleshoot, and repair intrusion detection (IDS) and access control systems (ACS).
  • Be a key member of the field physical security team, performing construction surveillance for critical projects.
  • Interact with all levels of customers in a high security environment.
  • Collaborate with project managers, facilities personnel and contractors on security related projects.
  • Perform day to day operational activities for high security spaces including responding, assessing, and categorizing security alarms.
  • Be available to respond to emergency calls during non-operational hours and work deviated schedules when necessary and as scheduled.
  • Assist in conducting laboratory experiments and acquiring performance data.
  • Analyze data, gather metrics, and recommend modifications to system components or test procedures to meet desired specifications and requirements.
  • Support a wide range of computer hardware and software, including servers, file storage subsystems, workstations, and peripherals.
  • Determine integrated hardware and software architecture solutions that meet performance, scalability, reliability, and security needs and management.
  • Perform special assignments related to high-level security systems design and installation.
Salary Range

$63,800 - $123,400

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of low-voltage control systems infrastructure.
  • Experience with construction site work.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance and ability to obtain SCI access.
Qualifications We Desire

  • Knowledge of design, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electronics, alarms and access control sensors, distributed systems controls, control sensors, and power supplies.
  • Two or more years of experience in electrical trades, electronics, physical security, or construction management.
  • Experience with Lenel OnGuard access control and intrusion detection systems.
  • Knowledgeable in low voltage electrical systems or electronic systems.
  • Proven knowledge of logical security systems interface.
  • Knowledge of Intelligence Community Directives (ICDs)
  • Experience with specialized key production and knowledge of lock installation, repair, and maintenance.
  • Self-motivated and customer-focused with ability to work independently with little or no daily direction.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and complete multiple complex tasks.
  • Excellent communication skills with proficiency in MS Office Suite.
  • Ability to work weekends, nights, and holidays as scheduled and as needed.
  • Able to travel when necessary.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

About Our Team

The Field Intelligence Element (FIE) Operations Group performs high-impact, national security work for a broad segment of the Intelligence Community. The FIE Physical Security Department protects the information of our customers and creates a secure environment that allows Sandia to deliver products and services that protect our nation's security. The functions of this department include program security, visitor control, badge office, protocol, FIE Safety, facility security, and SCIF space.

Posting Duration

Security Clearance

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance and SCI access, both of which require US citizenship. SCI access may also require a polygraph examination. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain these levels of access may be impacted.

Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
