DESCRIPTION

The Urogynecology & Reconstructive Pelvic Medicine Nurse Practitioner will work with full-time faculty members in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences. The NP provides clinically expert care for Urogynecology & Reconstructive Pelvic Medicine (URPS) patients.

The NP will serve as a liaison between patients and physicians, assessing and determining the acuity of patient symptoms and communicating these to the surgeons as appropriate. Interview patients regarding the presenting problem to determine and expedite disposition. Performs outpatient clinical care to include independent clinical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment, assists physicians as required, conveys instructions and lab results to patients, and provides health education as needed. Triage patient calls, refill requests, and electronic messages. Prioritizes and resolves, involving Physicians as appropriate. Manages and documents all communications in the electronic medical record system. The position requires a strong emphasis on the complete care of the Urogynecologic patient, from pre- to peri- to post-op settings. Position requires special knowledge, skills, and abilities in the field of Urogynecology

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.

  • Active California Registered Nurse (RN) license.

  • State of California Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM), or Nurse Practitioner (NP) license and Furnishing License Certification.

  • If a Nurse Practitioner, must possess a board certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner, or Women's Health Nurse Practitioner, or Certified Nurse Midwife.

  • BLS/CPR certification at time of hire with commitment to obtain BART within six (6) months of hire.

  • Minimum of one (1) year of recent experience as an NP or CNM in Women's Health.

  • Recent direct outpatient clinical experience, including medical-surgical and triage expertise.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide urogynecologic services.

  • Demonstrated ability to perform comprehensive histories and physical examinations, identify medical problems, interpret diagnostic and laboratory data, and formulate appropriate inpatient and outpatient plans of care.

  • Ability to assess daily patient status and progress and communicate findings effectively to physicians and interdisciplinary care teams.

  • Demonstrated ability to write and implement orders related to patient treatment plans.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in complete surgical patient care across pre-operative, peri-operative, and post-operative settings.

  • Knowledge and skill in common adult diagnostic tests, exams, and procedures, including appropriate use of equipment, infection control practices, and accurate documentation.

  • Proficiency in basic and advanced nursing techniques, including vital signs, medication administration, IV initiation and monitoring, specimen collection, sterile setup, procedural assistance, emergency response, wound care, and first aid.

  • Willingness and ability to be trained in specialized equipment and procedures, including Urodynamics, Biofeedback, and Cystoscopy.

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate, thorough, and organized medical records and prepare clear medical reports, progress notes, laboratory documentation, and patient care policies and protocols.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including effective patient and family counseling in sensitive situations and professional communication with physicians and healthcare team members.

  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and effectively serve a diverse patient population.

  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to participate in the education and training of house staff, medical students, nurses, and other healthcare professionals; teaching future clinicians is required.

  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to participate in clinical research studies and patient care protocols within Urogynecology & Reconstructive Pelvic Medicine.

  • Demonstrated analytical skills and sound clinical judgment.

  • Knowledge of medical ethics and healthcare legal practices.

  • Ability to work independently, remain self-motivated, and manage responsibilities with minimal supervision.

PREFERRED
  • One (1+) or more years of recent experience in urogynecology or women's pelvic medicine.
  • Experience with, or desire to learn, gender affirming surgical care for transgender patients.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Must be willing to work flexible, variable hours.

  • Must be able to obtain UCSD Medical Staff privileges and maintain during employment. Due to advanced practice credentialing eligibility, clinical advanced practice experience must be within the last two years gained through school or work experience.

  • Current University of California NPIII employees may be hired at the NPIII level pending review and approval by Health Human Resources and the UCSD Advanced Practice Council.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $176,624 - $247,157 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $84.59 - $118.37

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
