DESCRIPTION

The Care Assistance Medical Assistant is responsible for handling incoming refill and symptom calls from Community Care patients, using best practice techniques and delivering excellent customer service. This role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to navigate clinical workflows while supporting both administrative and patient care functions.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Appropriately documenting and routing call information to the correct clinical staff using established call escalation grids.

  • Assisting with entering lab orders per protocol, processing authorizations, and relaying normal test results once released by the provider.

  • Scheduling appointments and consulting with the patient's PCP or specialist as needed, following established scheduling guidelines.

  • Reviewing the EPIC chart to address patient questions, concerns, and requests.

  • Verifying Patient Health Information to ensure HIPAA compliance and documenting confidential information in the patient's chart.

  • Supporting patient care by assisting with rooming patients, conducting initial assessments and procedures, preparing patients and equipment, monitoring patient flow and wait times, and performing assigned treatments within scope.

  • Contacting clinical resource staff across centers to support patient calls, requests, and medical needs.

  • Managing high call volumes in a call center environment and demonstrating strong problem-solving skills by systematically evaluating options and consequences.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • A minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience, including direct patient care.

  • Must have previous Medical Assistant experience and one (1) year Ambulatory Care experience.

  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) OR Certificate of completion of a Medical Assistant training program.

  • BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART w/in 6 months of hire date.

  • Excellent communication skills at level necessary for taking patients' medical histories, understanding provider and supervisors instructions, and for accurately documenting patients' medical information.

  • Requires knowledge of medical terminology and online scheduling.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with patient population and staff while demonstrating a high degree of diplomacy and tact.

  • Ability to multi-task and work effectively in a high-stress and fast-moving environment.

  • Culturally sensitive and demonstrated ability and effectiveness working with ethnically diverse populations.

  • Must have working knowledge of "Universal Precautions" and demonstrate professionalism at all times.

  • Possess a thorough understanding of the importance of confidentiality and non-disclosure according to the general standards set forth by HIPAA.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Venipuncture experience.

  • Two (2) years of experience as a Medical Assistant.

  • Previous experience assisting with procedures.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $60,239 - $75,001 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $28.85 - $35.92

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
