This position requires a full-time commitment of three 12-hour shifts per week, with a rotating day/night schedule. Work every other weekend and on holidays is mandatory. Candidates must possess a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or RQI.


Qualifications

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent education. Post-secondary education in Health or Human Services is preferred.
  • 1-2 years of customer service or health-related experience, preferably in Med/Surg, ED, or ICU settings.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Customer service/patient-centered focus.
  • Basic knowledge of healthcare and/or nursing assistant roles.


Responsibilities

The Nursing Assistant is responsible for performing various patient care activities and related non-professional services to address the personal needs and comfort of patients in an environment that promotes dignity and healing. Responsibilities include:



  • Performing vital signs and activities of daily living as outlined in the plan of care, including ADLs.
  • Assisting with hourly rounding and documenting care rendered per guidelines.
  • Meeting the nutrition needs of patients as outlined in the plan of care, in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Performing meal delivery, setting up trays and adaptive equipment, assisting with feeding, and distributing nourishments while honoring choices.
  • Properly documenting per policy, protocol, and procedure.
  • Maintaining patient comfort and safety as outlined in the plan of care and in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Turning and positioning patients, providing skin care, immediately answering call lights/alarms, placing mats, positioning low beds, etc.
  • Assuring rehabilitation needs are met as outlined in the care plan and in accordance with policy and procedures, including ROM, ambulation, transfers, proper body alignment, and use of assistive devices.
  • Documenting rehab per guidelines.
  • Identifying changes in patient physical and emotional status and reporting changes promptly to the nurse.
  • Appropriately participating in shift changeover communication, providing complete and relevant information about patients for whom care was provided.


Work Environment

The staff member must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on their assigned unit. This includes understanding the principles of growth and development across the lifespan and the ability to assess and interpret data reflective of the patient's status to provide age-specific care. Occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens is reasonably anticipated, with required tasks involving potential contact with blood, body fluids, or tissues.


Skills

  • BLS certification (AHA) - Required
  • 1-2 years of experience in customer service and/or health-related fields in Med/Surg/ED/ICU - Required
  • High school graduate or equivalent education with post-secondary education in Health/Human Services - Required
