The challenge

Adobe is seeking an experienced and strategically minded Director of Tax who brings not only deep technical expertise but also a spirit of curiosity and a drive to continuously elevate the tax function. As a leader in the Global Tax group, directly reporting to the VP of Global Tax, the Director is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the US income tax function, including income tax accounting and domestic compliance and controversy. This role will partner cross-functionally with Accounting, Finance, Treasury, Legal, and executive leadership to support the business, manage risk and opportunities, and drive tax strategy aligned with corporate objectives. As tax laws, business, and the operating environment evolves, we need a Director that is eager to learn, adapt, and expand their impact across the organization.

What you'll do

  • Ensure completeness and accuracy of tax compliance and reporting for U.S. federal, state, local, GAAP, and SEC requirements by maintaining current knowledge of laws, regulations, accounting, and reporting standards, while advising management on essential considerations and needed actions
  • Direct all aspects of the quarterly and year-end tax provisions and disclosures
  • Oversee all aspects of domestic compliance and related audits including federal, state, and local income tax returns and other filings
  • Monitor the tax landscape, research and interpret, and assist with the ongoing analysis and documentation of tax positions and internal controls to identify and address potential tax risks and opportunities
  • Analyze business and financial forecasts to provide insights into future effective tax rates and cash taxes
  • Identify, recommend, and implement opportunities to optimize Adobe's tax profile and improve efficiency
  • Partner with management to establish and implement Adobe's short and long-term tax strategies
  • Provide support for mergers and acquisitions, proposed and contemplated transactions, and ad hoc projects
  • Improve tax function by identifying and implementing leading methodologies and tools
  • Serve as a trusted advisor, effectively communicate, and partner across the organization, including executive leadership, to stay current with business developments and identify, assess, and strategically advise with related insights and implications
  • Actively lead, mentor, and develop a team of skilled tax professionals

What you need to succeed

  • 15+ years of progressive corporate tax experience with strong knowledge of accounting for income taxes, corporate income tax compliance (federal, state, and local), internal controls, U.S. GAAP, and SEC reporting requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand, address, and decisively drive solutions to complex domestic and cross-border tax matters
  • Ability to adapt in a constantly changing, fast-paced environment with demanding deadlines, and influence the actions of others with logic and reason
  • Demonstrated track record of leading, motivating, developing, and assessing a team of robust tax managers and individual contributors.
  • Able to convey and collaborate with non-tax professionals, challenge the status quo respectfully, and act as a catalyst within the organization.
  • Manage relationships with external advisors, consultants, and auditors.
  • Experience with public, multinational company in the technology industry preferred.
  • CPA and or Masters in Taxation preferred
Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets, and we pay differently based on those defined markets. The U.S. pay range for this positionis $170,100 -- $317,900 annually. Paywithin this range varies by work locationand may also depend on job-related knowledge, skills,and experience. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for the job location during the hiring process.
In California, the pay range for this position is $219,500 - $317,900

At Adobe, for sales roles starting salaries are expressed as total target compensation (TTC = base + commission), and short-term incentives are in the form of sales commission plans. Non-sales roles starting salaries are expressed as base salary and short-term incentives are in the form of the Annual Incentive Plan (AIP).

In addition, certain roles may be eligible for long-term incentives in the form of a new hire equity award.
