The Sterile Processing Education Coordinator oversees the orientation of new team members and provides ongoing education for existing staff. This role helps plan and coordinate educational initiatives for sterile processing and works collaboratively with the OR/Procedure Center educator to ensure proper processing of instruments and equipment.

Department: Sterile Processing - Colorado Springs Hospital
Job Status: Fulltime - 80 hours per pay period
Shift: Variable shifts to accommodate team/department educational needs
Duties & Responsibilities
- Leads the orientation of new staff and provides ongoing education for existing sterile processing personnel.
- Maintains schedule flexibility to accommodate orientation and support on off-shifts.
- Plans and coordinates education initiatives, collaborating with the OR/Procedure Center educator on proper instrument and equipment processing.
- Develops and implements staff competencies and arranges in-services for new instruments and equipment.
- Ensures compliance with regulatory standards and professional guidelines, including documentation of cleaning, care, and preventive maintenance per manufacturer instructions.
- Conducts audits and supports departmental readiness for regulatory surveys.
- Promotes evidence-based practice and supports educational strategies to improve processing practices and service quality.
- Identifies and resolves process issues through variance reporting or other methods.
- Participates in product evaluations for existing and proposed equipment and supplies used in decontamination and cleaning.
- Provides hands-on support as an SPD Technician as needed.
Minimum Qualifications

- Experience
- Minimum Experience Required:Three (3) years' experience as a Surgical Technician or Instrument Tech
- Equivalency
- Two years experience above stated requirements may substitute for associate's degree.
- Licenses & Certifications
- Certified Registered Central Service Technician
Additional Requirements
- Must obtain one of the following certifications within six (6) months of hire: CBSPD Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT)
NBSTSA Certified Surgical Technologist
NCCT Certified Surgical Technologist
IAHCSMM Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST)
Salary Information
Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.
Hourly Range: $24.72 to $37.08
