JOB SUMMARY

The Staff Accountant evaluates and manages the payroll practices at Microbac, ensuring accurate employee compensation, tax withholdings, and deductions in compliance with federal, state and local regulations. This role is also responsible for providing support for monthly balance sheet reconciliations for the Finance team.

Essential Functions:

  • Create efficiencies and improve processes for payroll practices, utilization of ADP Essential Time, and tax compliance.
  • With the utilization of ADP SmartCompliance, manage federal, state, and local tax withholdings, social security, and unemployment insurance. Monitor and maintain consistent processes for monitoring and reviewing tax compliance and filings.
  • Provide reports and data analysis for payroll cycles identifying with any discrepancies and/or adjustments creating inconsistency in numbers.
  • Assist senior leaders with analyzing data and providing information relating to overtime, vacation payout liabilities, and inconsistencies with recording of time and attendance or paid time off management.
  • Collaborate and have strong lines of communication with Human Resources on people moves, promotions, salary adjustments, new hires, terminations, discrepancies in payroll, etc.
  • Process bi-weekly payroll, distribute payroll reports, and execute and meet deadlines on all year-end processes as it relates to payroll and tax.
  • Perform monthly reconciliations of balance sheet accounts, in accordance with month-end close schedule, to ensure adherence to US GAAP and internal company policies, accurately and timely.
  • Prepare monthly analysis of key balance sheet accounts for leadership review, identifying areas of opportunity and/or risk.
  • Maintain confidentiality and discretion with sensitive employee salary and personal information.
  • Assist with projects and initiatives as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field or at least 5 years of managing payroll processes with the utilization of ADP Essential Time.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred.
  • Advanced software proficiency with ADP Essential Time and Certinia, or another cloud-based business management platform that combines financial management, professional services automation, and enterprise resource planning tools.
  • Expert skill level in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Outlook, and intermediate skill level with Teams and PowerPoint.
  • Strong knowledge and continuous education on the regulations for labor laws and state regulations for payroll and exiting employee pay requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP and experience reconciling balance sheet accounts.
  • Effective and articulate verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail for reconciling payroll, reports, and audits.
