Position Description

The School of Professional Studies at Texas Tech University Online invites applications for a full-time, 12-month Lecturer position in Computing Applications to begin Spring 2026.

This position is assigned to the online teaching of 8-week courses that are offered as part of five 8-week terms, scheduled throughout the year (two in the fall, two in the spring, and one in the summer) to provide better flexibility to non-traditional students that represent a significant part of the online student population at Texas Tech University. All courses in these 8-week terms are offered asynchronously.

While appointed to this position, you will accrue vacation and will be required to report leave monthly following TTU's Operating Policy 70.01 and TTU System Regulation 07.12. About the Department/School/Area

The School of Professional Studies promotes students' leadership and career opportunities for success in a dynamic workplace through engaging interdisciplinary and career-focused credential and degree programs. The faculty of Professional Studies is dedicated to supporting students' skills by integrating multiple knowledge bases essential for navigating the complex and interconnected challenges of today's world, particularly those that involve multiple disciplines. The curricula and programs in Professional Studies prepare students to address the interdisciplinary challenges requiring a holistic approach emphasizing creativity, collaboration, and life-long learning for personal and career development.

Major/Essential Functions

At Texas Tech University, the Lecturer/Senior Lecturer title designates a full-time, non-tenure-acquiring role with primary duties in teaching organized classes and/or instructional labs. In line with TTU's strategic priorities to engage and empower a dynamic student body, applicants should have experience working with a breadth of student populations at the undergraduate level.

As a faculty member in the School of Professional Studies, you will be expected to:

1. Teaching & Instruction

  • Deliver high-quality instruction in Computing Applications courses across the program's three emphasis areas: Web and Software Development, Product Design and Management, and Information Organization and Management.

  • Teach undergraduate courses in an asynchronous, online format using 8-week accelerated semesters, ensuring that student engagement and learning outcomes are met.

  • Create and manage online course content that reflects current online computing practices, modern tools, and contemporary workflows in creative and technical fields.

  • Facilitate asynchronous discussions and learning activities that promote student engagement, technical and creative thinking, and applied problem-solving in online computing contexts.

  • Assess student work on assignments, projects, and coursework, providing feedback that fosters growth in both the creative and technical dimensions of online computing.

2. Student Support

  • Support students through a variety of online communication channels to foster an accessible and responsive learning environment.

  • Mentor and advise students on academic progress, project work, and career paths in computing-related fields.

3. Curriculum & Collaboration

  • Update and refine course materials to ensure alignment with evolving online computing technologies, industry practices, and program learning outcomes.

  • Collaborate with University and faculty leadership, faculty colleagues, and instructional designers to sustain and improve course quality and advance program goals.

  • Integrate current online computing technologies, tools, theories, and practices into online asynchronous instruction to enhance student learning and maintain curriculum relevance.

4. Program & Professional Development

  • Maintain active engagement with developments in online computing, web technologies, digital product design, information management, and related fields, with a genuine commitment to continuous learning and professional growth.

  • Contribute to program assessment, continuous improvement, and accreditation activities for the Computing Applications program and the School of Professional Studies.

5. Service & Administrative

  • Participate in faculty meetings, committees, and service activities at the program, School, and University levels.

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Faculty Qualifications

1. Terminal Degree (PhD, Ed.D, or equivalent) OR Master's Degree in one of the following areas: Computer Science, Applied Computing, Or related field

2. Terminal or master's degree must be conferred prior to hire.
3. Candidates who hold a completed master's degree in any field and have completed 18 credit hours in the above specified areas (as determined by the academic unit) will be considered.
4. Strong foundational knowledge in two or more of the following areas: web design and development, digital product design, or information organization and management.
5. Ability to communicate complex technical and creative concepts clearly to diverse learners.
6. Proficiency with modern digital tools, online computing technologies, and workflows relevant to creative and technical work.
7. Ability to work effectively in an asynchronous, online teaching environment.
8. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple courses and responsibilities
9. Ability to bridge creative and technical domains in online computing contexts, integrating theory and practice into applied, real-world learning experiences.

Preferred Qualifications

In addition to the required qualifications, individuals with the following preferred qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply:

  1. Professional experience, academic experience, or a combination of both spanning multiple areas relevant to the Computing Applications curriculum, including but not limited to web design and development, digital product design, user experience design, information and knowledge management, digital media production, creative technology, or related interdisciplinary fields.

  2. Background that reflects work bridging creative, technical, and information-focused domains in online computing applications and contexts.

  3. Experience designing, developing, or delivering accelerated training programs, courses, workshops, seminars, or similar offerings in online formats and modalities.

  4. Experience mentoring or guiding learners in applied, project-based, or portfolio-oriented work in industry or academic settings.

  5. Ability to integrate current industry practices, emerging technologies, and modern workflows into course instruction, combined with a personal commitment to staying current and knowledgeable about developments in online computing, web technologies, and creative technology fields.

  6. Strong ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively with faculty colleagues, instructional designers, and program leadership.

  7. Genuine engagement with online computing tools, technologies, and practices as a matter of professional and personal interest.

  8. Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS), such as Blackboard or Canvas

  9. 2 to 5 years of teaching experience in higher education
