What you'll do

The Production Control Planner reviews established product production schedules for the programs assigned to them. Their major responsibilities are to review Material Requirements Planning (MRP) outputs, verify materials needed to produce the product to support the Oracle system recommended start dates. Sends Work Orders to the stockroom for kitting, engages with Operations Project Managers (OPMs), PMs, Purchasing, Manufacturing, QA, Build engineering, and any other functions to resolve any issues. Validates all required items are ready to support product builds to make scheduled delivery dates. The Planner is responsible for tracking and reporting the status of the product through the manufacturing process and facilitates the final delivery to the customer.

A Production Control Planner should have a solid understanding of MRP and the planning process. The Planner can perform their duties under the general supervision of the department Supervisor/Manager.


The day-to-day

  • Analyzes MRP output to determine production requirements for supported product lines
  • Validates material availability and validates purchased material delivery dates to support production requirements and reports out to wider production team to coordinate with Supply Chain and Logistics teams.
  • Works with the OPM to set factory priorities and communicates with the Production Manager to schedule resources for builds
  • Review new products/parts planning attributes and ensure they are accurately set up
  • Review Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and prepare implementation plan
  • Maintains system data integrity and releases work orders based on system requirements
  • Attends program and department meetings and reports on the condition of products and issues as required
  • Works with OPMs and PMs to set program priorities and build requirements.
  • Runs aged work orders, discrepant material, and inventory in WIP sub-inventories
  • Verifies all production documents and transactions are completed, and the product is stocked for next-level production or delivery
  • Verifies delivery instructions, processes shipping documents, and notifies shipping department for shipment
  • Provides daily direction to Expeditors for their programs to ensure parts and materials are coordinated through the factory as scheduled
  • Ability to lead and track consignment builds at a contract manufacturer
  • Engage in continuous improvement initiatives to improve costs and efficiencies throughout our manufacturing and planning process

  • This position is located onsite. Viasat embraces a flexible work environment and onsite/hybrid work is determined by individual roles and teams. Relocation assistance is available pending eligibility.

What you'll need

Requirements:

  • Education: Completion of Bachelor's degree or higher in Business Management, Supply Chain Management, or quantitative fields

  • Experience: This role is intended for someone with 0-3 years of full-time, relevant industry experience

  • Citizenship: This position requires U.S. citizenship

  • Additional:

    • High level understanding and/or interest in learning the manufacturing cycle and how the operations function works regarding Planning and Scheduling
    • Knowledge, understanding, and/or practice of MRP principles
    • Knowledge and/or experience in ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) systems (Oracle or SAP preferred)
    • Knowledge and/or understanding of requirements planning/inventory management techniques (i.e., Just-in-time, MRP, and KANBAN, etc.) in support of made-to-stock and engineer-to-order manufacturing processes
    • Experience using Microsoft Excel and/or PowerPoint for management reporting and/or presentations

What will help you on the job

  • Experience working in a low volume high mix production environment
  • Experience working with ESD (ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE) sensitive materials
  • Flight hardware and payload application experience
  • Professional certifications (APICS CPSM/CPIM a plus)
  • Experience and proficiency using reporting tools such as Tableau, OBIEE, Excel
  • Familiarity with JIRA
  • Experience with government contracts

Salary range

$49,000.00 - $77,500.00 / annually.
For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $61,000.00- $91,000.00/ annually
