The Superintendent, Mining Mechanical oversees mechanical maintenance operations for Komatsu's mining equipment fleet in the Elko region. This role leads maintenance teams, ensures safe and efficient work practices, and supports customers by driving equipment reliability and uptime. The Superintendent - Mining Mechanical plays a pivotal role in bridging the gap between leadership and field teams to ensure operational success and equipment reliability. This leadership position demands a strong technical aptitude coupled with effective communication and supervisory skills to elevate team performance and customer satisfaction. Key responsibilities include:



  • Technical Expertise: Provide direct, hands-on technical solutions for mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic challenges encountered in mining equipment, ensuring minimal downtime and maintaining operational continuity.
  • Leadership and Supervisory Support: Act as the Field Service Supervisor's delegate by managing daily crew activities, facilitating communication, and driving productivity when the supervisor is unavailable.
  • Warranty Management: Identify warranty-related concerns, coordinate timely repairs, and meticulously document all related work to streamline the claims process and safeguard company interests.
  • Training and Mentorship: Deliver on-the-job training, share best practices, and mentor technicians to build a competent and self-sufficient workforce capable of tackling complex equipment issues.
  • Customer Engagement: Foster and maintain strong relationships with customers by proactively addressing their concerns, providing consistent service updates, and ensuring their experience aligns with company standards.
  • Operational Coordination: Collaborate closely with crew leadmen and the Field Service Supervisor to prioritize tasks, allocate resources efficiently, and maintain seamless workflow across job sites.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Oversee the preparation, verification, and maintenance of service reports, repair documentation, and work orders to ensure accurate records for compliance and analysis.
  • Advanced Problem-Solving: Analyze and troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical issues using a methodical approach to reduce equipment downtime and optimize performance.
  • Health and Safety Leadership: Uphold and enforce strict adherence to all safety protocols and regulations, promoting a culture of safety awareness and risk mitigation among team members.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process enhancements, equipment upgrades, and training improvements, contributing to the company's commitment to excellence and innovation.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Educational Background: Associate degree or technical diploma in Mechanical Technology, Electrical Technology, or a closely related discipline; equivalent professional experience in mining or heavy equipment maintenance will also be considered.
  • Technical Certifications: Credentials in hydraulics, electrical systems, safety protocols, or mechanical repair are highly advantageous, reflecting a solid foundation of relevant expertise.
  • Industry Experience: Minimum of three years' hands-on experience working with mining or heavy equipment in a mechanical capacity, demonstrating practical problem-solving and maintenance skills.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead teams, facilitate training, and act as a liaison between technical staff and management effectively.
  • Communication: Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate across multiple teams and maintain positive customer relations.
