Join the Autobidder Operations team as a Trading Engineer and play a key role in advancing automated trading and asset optimization in the electricity markets. Autobidder manages the world's largest fleet of battery storage assets, from utility-scale batteries to virtual power plants, driving innovation in renewable energy.

As a Trading Engineer, you'll leverage your experience in software engineering or data engineering to enhance reporting, performance attribution and operational monitoring. Your solutions will enable proactive management of trading strategies and asset performance, directly influencing the success of energy assets and accelerating the transition to sustainable energy systems.

You'll contribute to Tesla's mission by optimizing battery revenues and advancing renewable power integration. With a passion for building and automating tools that deliver tangible results, a bias for action, and a collaborative mindset, you'll thrive in our fast-paced team environment.


What You'll Do
  • Support the development of Python-based analytical, reporting and monitoring tools, involving (but not limited to)building and maintaining scalable data pipelines, addressing data quality challenges and guaranteeing high data availability for analytical purposes
  • Collaborate with machine learning, optimization, and software teams to help deliver fundamental analysis and expertise that enhance our competitive edge in algorithmic electricity market trading
  • Participate in on-call rotations to support Autobidder market operations. As part of the rotation, take ownership of the fleet performance and conduct analysis to identify opportunities for algorithmic developments
  • Drive long-term initiatives to improve the overall tech stack, with a focus on scalability, efficiency, and performance
  • Lead discussions with internal teams, customers, and external organizations to communicate fleet performance and operational insights

What You'll Bring
  • 5+ years' work experience in the field of data engineering/software engineering, partnering with analysts and/or data scientists to drive decision-making and deliver actionable insights
  • Proficiency in Python (or another object-oriented language) and SQL with practical experience in production environments
  • Analytical skills for extracting insights, making decisions in uncertain scenarios, and communicating technical results to diverse audiences
  • Collaborative mindset with a creative approach to problem-solving and a drive for team success
  • Understanding of US electricity markets (CAISO, ERCOT preferred), including market design, trading strategies, and product structures preferred
  • Experience in the stationary storage industry, or prior modeling of stationary storage energy market applications preferred
  • Familiarity with linear optimization or time-series forecasting methods preferred
  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent experience

    Expected Compensation
    $140,000 - $252,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
