Position: Hazmat Associate

Location: IBVI Base Supply Center, Joint Base Charleston

Position Type: Part-time

Pay: $18-$19 hourly



Industries for the Blind and Visually Impaired (IBVI) is a mission-driven not for profit organization seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Hazmat Associate to support inventory control, safety compliance, and operational readiness at our base Supply Center located on Joint Base Charleston. This role plays a critical part in managing hazardous materials in accordance with Air Force, Naval Weapons Station, and government contract requirements. The ideal candidate is organized, safety-focused, and comfortable working independently in an environment where accuracy and accountability are essential.

What a day looks like:

In this role, a typical day includes monitoring and managing hazardous material inventory, reviewing shelf-life and expiration dates, maintaining accurate records in required systems, and ensuring all materials are safely stored, handled, and documented. The Hazmat Associate regularly updates safety documentation, coordinates receiving and delivery activities, attends scheduled hazmat meetings or training, and works closely with store leadership to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations. The position involves a balance of administrative work, inventory oversight, and hands-on handling of materials within the warehouse and store environment.



What you'll be doing - key requirements:

  1. Managing the purchasing, promotion, receiving and delivery of all hazmat material.
  2. Ensuring safe and proper handling of all material.
  3. Monitoring mission-critical and sensitive items and ensuring proper inventory levels are maintained.

Qualifications
Qualifications:

  • Valid Real Act ID compliant driver's License is required
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required
  • Must pass federal background check and obtain a CAC (Common Access Card)
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Minimum 1 year of experience, and basic understanding of retail operations, including management principles, with experience in HazMat sales and compliance.
