Description

Scientific Research Corporation (SRC) is seeking an exceptionally talented and versatile Senior Data Scientist & Engineer to lead mission-critical data initiatives supporting defense and space-focused programs. This hybrid leadership role integrates advanced data science, scalable data engineering, and holistic infrastructure design within secure government environments. The selected candidate will serve as a senior technical authority responsible for architecting and managing the end-to-end data lifecycle, influencing new data center design, and translating complex Integrated Product Team (IPT) requirements into a resilient, secure, and scalable data ecosystem. This position requires deep expertise in machine learning, enterprise data architecture, storage infrastructure, and cloud technologies, as well as the ability to operate effectively in Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) environments. Key Responsibilities include:

    Lead the design, development, and management of scalable Extract, Transform, Load/Extract, Load, Transform (ETL/ELT) pipelines, data warehouses, and data lakes supporting analytics and machine learning initiatives
  • Perform advanced analysis of large-scale datasets, including complex space data, to derive actionable mission insights and solve high-impact operational challenges
  • Develop, implement, and deploy predictive models and machine learning algorithms within production environments
  • Translate holistic data-sharing and analytics requirements from Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) into comprehensive data architectures, influencing new data center design, including integration of Storage Area Networks (SAN), Network Attached Storage (NAS), object storage, and data processing frameworks
  • Establish and enforce data governance, quality, integrity, and security best practices across the enterprise
  • Serve as senior technical lead and primary customer interface for data initiatives, advising leadership on feasibility, performance, cost, and long-term scalability
  • Develop and deliver executive-level technical briefings and represent SRC in high-level meetings with customers and stakeholders
  • Identify follow-on technical opportunities and define complex requirements for statements of work

Requirements

  • Education & Clearance: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or related quantitative field, and a current Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) security clearance.
  • Experience & Technical Expertise: Minimum 7 years of progressive experience across both data engineering and data science disciplines, including expert proficiency in Python and Structured Query Language (SQL); demonstrated success designing Extract, Transform, Load/Extract, Load, Transform (ETL/ELT) pipelines; developing and deploying machine learning models; and working with big data technologies such as Apache Spark, Apache Airflow, or Apache Hadoop.
  • Infrastructure & Domain Knowledge: Demonstrated knowledge of enterprise data architecture and storage hardware (e.g. Storage Area Networks (SAN), Network Attached Storage (NAS), and object storage), data center design principles, data governance practices, and understanding of space data characteristics, including experience with the National Space Intelligence Center (NSIC) Data Catalog.


Desired Skills

  • Master's degree or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or related field
  • Experience in aerospace or defense environments and leading technical discussions within Integrated Product Teams (IPTs)
  • Hands-on experience with data center design, migration, or modernization initiatives
  • Extensive experience with cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) GovCloud, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and associated data and machine learning services
  • Familiarity with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
  • Experience implementing Machine Learning Operations (MLOps) principles and tools
  • Strong understanding of data quality frameworks, security controls, and accreditation considerations for cloud-based systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to senior leaders and non-technical stakeholders
  • Proven ability to thrive in fast-paced, multidisciplinary environments with strong collaboration, adaptability, and initiative

SRC IS A CONTRACTOR FOR THE U.S. GOVERNMENT, THIS POSITION WILL REQUIRE U.S. CITIZENSHIP AS WELL AS, A U.S. GOVERNMENT SECURITY CLEARANCE AT THE TOP SECRET LEVEL WITH TOP SECRET / SCI ELIGIBILITY
