About the Job:

We are hiring a new Staff Accountant at our corporate office in Birmingham, AL! This position is part of the Lease Team. As a member of the Lease Team, you will be responsible for the management of the leases between Vulcan and our landowners. This involves having a complete understanding of the lease contracts and serving as the primary contact for these landowners. The rents and royalties due to the landowners are calculated and paid by the Lease Team. At each month-end you will prepare and upload assigned calculation files and journal entries necessary to close the General Ledger, as well as perform reconciliations of assigned General Ledger accounts for accuracy.

What You'll Do:

  • Leases: Input new and amended leases into our lease management software.
  • Landowners: Respond to landowner inquiries and change requests; prepare and send monthly statements
  • Tasks: Complete assigned tasks such as inflations, true-ups, reporting.
  • Month-End Tasks. Process and prepare month-end calculation files, journal entries, reconcile accounts, and issue payments.
  • Maintain Records. Maintain accounting records in accordance with Company policies and GAAP.
  • Prepare Reports. Prepare annual tax work papers, 10K schedules, and other monthly and quarterly reports as required.
  • Collaborate. Assist your supervisor and other coworkers as needed. Provide assistance and additional help on time-sensitive special projects. Employ effective team-building skills in order to work in a group or to assist in bringing a group to consensus.
Qualifications

Skills You'll Need:

  • Education. Must have a BS Degree in Accounting and/or related field.
  • Experience. Must have a minimum of two years of general accounting or cost accounting experience. Lease Accounting, Public accounting and or CPA experience is a plus.
  • Organizational Skills. Must have strong organizational skills and display attention to detail. Must have strong time management skills. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Interpersonal Skills. Must have strong communication skills. Must be able to effectively communicate with all levels within the organization. Must have excellent customer service skills.
  • Technology Skills. Must have strong computer skills, including skills in Microsoft Excel and Word.
