What to Expect We are seeking a highly motivated Staff Software Engineer with expertise in backend service development to join our small, high-performing team. You'll build scalable software systems that support contract generation and contract lifecycle for suppliers, customers, employees and candidates. The ideal candidate is passionate about crafting world-class software, has a proven track record in scalable services, and thrives in collaborative environments. Strong software engineering fundamentals, familiarity with UI languages and excellent communication skills will be ideal. In this role you will also prototype with new technologies (ex, LLMs, Agents, RAG, etc.) and champion their usage to ease developer cognitive load and system operations. What You'll Do Deliver high-quality, maintainable code that addresses real-world contract processing challenges Lead end-to-end projects, from gathering requirements and architectural design through implementation, testing, and production deployment Develop workflows that leverage AI to improve operations Contribute to system architecture and design, especially where AI, automation and operational scale intersect Mentor engineers and uphold global standards of excellence in software craftsmanship Prioritize robust, production-critical systems with strong validation, monitoring, and support mechanisms Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure solutions align with system design, operational needs and end-user impact Stay up to date with the latest trends and technologies in the software engineering industry to identify new opportunities and drive innovation What You'll Bring Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, related or equivalent experience Minimum 5 years of professional experience (6+ years preferred) Mastery of object-oriented programming principles (any language: C#, Java, Python, C++, etc.) Proficient in building RESTful services (any OOP backend: .NET Core, Spring Boot, Django, etc.) Experience with large language models, AI agents, prompt engineering, and AI platforms (e.g. OpenAI, HuggingFace, LangChain, LlamaIndex, etc.) Proficiency in rigorous software development practices, including version control, code reviews, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and logging Proficient in backend development fundamentals, including SQL databases, vector databases Familiarity with projects in front end technologies like React, Angular, HTML, JavaScript, CSS, or similar Excellent interpersonal communication skills and a demonstrated ability to lead technical initiatives from concept to production Compensation and Benefits Benefits Along with competitive pay, as a full-time Tesla employee, you are eligible for the following benefits at day 1 of hire: Medical plans > plan options with $0 payroll deduction Family-building, fertility, adoption and surrogacy benefits Dental (including orthodontic coverage) and vision plans, both have options with a $0 paycheck contribution Company Paid (Health Savings Accounts) HSA Contribution when enrolled in the High-Deductible medical plan with HSA Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) 401(k) with employer match, Employee Stock Purchase Plans, and other financial benefits Company paid Basic Life, AD&D Short-term and long-term disability insurance (90 day waiting period) Employee Assistance Program Sick and Vacation time (Flex time for salary positions, Accrued hours for Hourly positions), and Paid Holidays Back-up childcare and parenting support resources Voluntary benefits to include: critical illness, hospital indemnity, accident insurance, theft & legal services, and pet insurance Weight Loss and Tobacco Cessation Programs Tesla Babies program Commuter benefits Employee discounts and perks program Expected Compensation $168,000 - $300,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
