The Safety Technician supports the implementation and maintenance of the plant's Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs. This role assists in ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, company policies, and safe work practices. The Safety Technician works closely with safety specialists, production personnel, supervisors, and management to identify hazards, prevent injuries, and promote a strong safety culture throughout the facility.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Safety Inspections and Hazard Identification

* Conduct & document routine plant safety inspections of production areas, yard operations, maintenance shops, and mobile equipment to identify unsafe conditions, unsafe behaviors, and regulatory compliance gaps. Bring awareness of findings to plant leadership.

* Support environmental compliance activities as assigned.

* Assist with mobile equipment safety monitoring (forklifts, cranes, loaders, yard trucks).

Incident Reporting and Investigation

* Assist in the investigation of workplace incidents, near misses, property damage, and injuries to help gather facts, conduct interviews, and document findings for root cause determination and preventive actions.

Safety Compliance and Regulatory Support

* Assist in maintaining compliance with applicable safety regulations, including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards, such as maintaining Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and safety records.

Safety Training and Employee Engagement

* Assist with new employee safety orientation, training, and toolbox talks.

* Reinforce safe work practices and proper PPE usage on the production floor.

Documentation and Recordkeeping

* Assist in maintaining safety files, training records, inspection logs, and compliance documentation.

PPE and Safety Equipment Management

* Inspect safety equipment such as: Fire extinguishers, eye wash stations, emergency equipment, and fall protection equipment

Support Safety Programs and Initiatives

* Participate in safety committee meetings.

Required Qualifications:

Education

* High School Diploma or GED required

Experience

* Entry-level position: 1-2 years of safety experience preferred but not required

* Manufacturing, construction, or industrial experience preferred

Required Skills and Competencies

* Basic knowledge of workplace safety principles

* Strong attention to detail

* Good observation skills

* Strong communication skills

* Ability to interact with employees at all levels

* Ability to recognize hazards

* Basic computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, email)

* Ability to maintain confidentiality

Physical Requirements

* Ability to walk throughout the plant and yard frequently

* Ability to work in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions

* Ability to climb ladders and access elevated work areas

* Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally

* Ability to wear required PPE, including hard hat, safety glasses, high-visibility vest, steel-toe boots, hearing protection, and gloves

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to an office environment but will be required periodically to go out into the plant/field environment that includes noise, dirt, heat, cold, oil, fumes, and other elements. Time spent in office is approximately 50% and time spent in plant/field is 50%.
