HDR is looking for a TMT Technical Principal who will focus on the leadership and technical expertise of the design and planning of projects in the data center market across North America. The ideal candidate for this position will be based in HDR's Omaha office, but other applicants across the country will be considered. This role is an opportunity to join an established and leading data center practice in the A&E industry. The successful candidate must possess the drive, experience and charisma needed to secure initiate and lead complex programs, deliver technical excellence, and expand upon HDR's reputation within this market.

Critical to this role is a proven history and commitment to technical leadership in the management and planning of facilities for hyperscale data center clients. Client assignments throughout North America are likely. Beginning with relationship building/pre-positioning activities, and the subsequent effort to drive successful proposals through technical delivery of projects will be essential in this roll.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Understand the data center building design process and facilitate clear communication and provide leadership for the entire design team.
  • Be a conceptual thinker who can engage and challenge our architectural designers and engineering team during the early stages of projects to inform design strategies.
  • Facilitate the recruiting and growth of team members in the data center design group. Mentor junior staff and identify where we need to hire additional expertise.
  • Working with the Sector Directors, CDL's and local leadership to drive the growth of new business through new client relationships, while also continuing to focus on growing our scope of service offering to existing clients.
  • Developing strategies, capture plans and initiating/building relationships with key clients.
  • Support the development of qualifications packages and proposal submittals.
  • Collaborating with Operations leadership to lead pursuit go/no go and strategy discussions.
  • Possessing and maintaining knowledge of client technical needs and plans, tracking current and trending business environment, and maintaining awareness of client assessment of HDR in order to anticipate, track and capture contract assignments.
  • Working in partnership with others (including other Sectors and BG's) to drive new business prospects and existing client opportunities.
  • Principals are expected to help develop scope, schedule, and fee for projects. They must communicate regarding the pursuits they are leading with operational leadership to address staffing, expertise requirements, and business needs.
  • Participating in HDR's Annual Strategy/Planning activities - and leading the efforts to develop strategies for the Industrial and Tech Sector.
  • Monitor and track projects for successful execution inclusive of commercial, technical and financial aspects.

All of HDR's services are to be leveraged in this combination of a technical leadership role with a focus on: data center facilities, civil utilities and site infrastructure, corporate campuses, site selection, and energy facilities.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture
  • 15 years related experience
  • A minimum 7 years project management experience
  • Registered Architect
  • Must have experience on large-scale projects
  • Must be able to lead a team on projects and make client presentations
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project)
  • Extensive knowledge and experience within the local and regional market
  • Strong team leadership, mentoring, motivational/organizational and people skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be willing to travel
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
