In the role of Resident Project Representative Senior, we'll count on you to:
Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications, and identify discrepancies or conflicts within the documents Maintain accurate daily records of the contractor's daily activities and the work performed, and of the labor, equipment and materials used Review construction materials for Contract compliance Track quantities and develop pay estimates for acceptance Attend and/or chair construction progress meetings Conduct observations of the installation and acceptance testing of completed equipment and systems Identify nonconforming work, develop project punchlists and maintain until corrected Develop record documentation for engineer review/acceptance Assist with project audit/closeout Thorough working knowledge of California Department of Transportation policies, procedures, and standards applicable to roadway construction. Demonstrated experience administering roadway construction contracts, including traffic control, drainage, paving, structures, utilities, and coordination with multiple stakeholders. Proficient in applying the Caltrans Construction Manual, Standard Specifications, Standard Plans, Special Provisions, and the Caltrans Local Assistance Procedures Manual (LAPM), as applicable. Experience managing construction schedules, including review of contractor CPM schedules, schedule updates, time impact analyses, and administration of working day or calendar day contracts. Demonstrated ability to manage cost and quantity control, review and approval of progress payments, and preparation and negotiation of change orders. Experience maintaining complete and accurate construction documentation, including daily or weekly diaries, correspondence, RFIs, submittals, change order records, and final construction documentation. Experience overseeing construction inspection staff and coordinating specialty inspectors, materials testing personnel, survey staff, and environmental monitors. Working knowledge of environmental compliance requirements, including SWPPP implementation and monitoring, permit conditions, and approved mitigation measures. Strong communication and coordination skills with contractors, local agencies, utilities, and the traveling public. This position is subject to a preemployment drug test
Preferred Qualifications
Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of California Minimum of ten (10) years of transportation construction experience, including at least six (6) years serving as a Resident Engineer or in an equivalent role on Caltrans or Caltrans Local Assistance projects.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Technology, or combination of education and relevant experience
- A minimum of 10 years progressive construction experience on multidisciplinary projects
- Must have a fundamental understanding of contracts and familiarity with codes and laws governing construction
- Must possess the ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications and identify discrepancies or conflicts within documents
- Must be able to work in a team environment
- Must be computer literate, experience with Microsoft Office, Primavera, or related construction packages
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
- An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
