The current full-time salary range for Associate Adjunct Professor positions is $128,800-$150,700.
The current full-time salary for Full Adjunct Professor positions is $144,300-$232,100.

This position may range up to 100% time.

Position duration:
Initial 2-year appointment with the option for possible reappointment

Position description

The Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for the position of Associate or Full Adjunct Professor to serve concurrently as the Faculty Director for the Master of Financial Engineering (MFE) Program.

The MFE program trains leaders to fill critical industry needs not typically met by traditional MBA or PhD finance programs. The selected candidate must exhibit a record of excellence in teaching, research, and service. We are particularly interested in candidates with extensive finance industry experience and a background in quantitative finance, statistics, data science, machine learning, or artificial intelligence. This is a Haas-funded position.

Key Academic Responsibilities:

* Advising: Serve as a faculty advisor and mentor to MFE students, including guiding industry projects.

* Research: Coordinate and supervise together with faculty: industry research projects, research projects for independent studies, and applied finance research projects. Publish industry-oriented research papers, including possible collaborations with faculty and students. Represent the program at industry-oriented conferences such as the Journal of Investment Management conference.

* Teaching: Instruct MFE courses focusing on investments, financial markets, data science, deep learning, security valuation, and the numerical/simulation mathematics and computer technology used in the industry.

Faculty Director & Service Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to):

* Program Leadership: Oversee admissions, fundraising, research grants and program events.

* Industry Relations: Identify firms for industry projects and manage relationships with alumni and hiring partners.

* Career Placement: Ensure outstanding student placement in internships and full-time positions.

* Committee Service: Participate in department and school committee assignments as requested.

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

The minimum qualifications to be an applicant are an Advanced degree (or equivalent international degree) at the time of application.

Preferred qualifications

Ph.D., or equivalent international degree.

Demonstrated record of industry partnerships.

Expertise in finance, data science, and/or technology.

Strong ability for successful teaching and student advising.

Demonstrated record of research and scholarly publications commensurate with career stage.

Potential for successfully attracting and mentoring new students.

Potential for designing new courses.
