Job Summary:

  • Responsible for LDC settlement, analysis, and gross margin reporting for the U.S. market. This includes month-end and quarter-end accounting close for both the Residential and Commercial business. Settlements will include performance of monthly accounts receivable and payable reconciliations. Supervisor must have solid working knowledge of all areas mentioned to provide team training, review teams output, and support the manager with ad hoc requests.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Perform monthly accounting functions necessary to achieve an accurate and timely month end close.
  • Prepare and report analysis for the U.S. gross margin estimate vs actual results.
  • Prepare and post monthly journal entries as related to gross margin.
  • Prepare inventory report monthly related to LDC Banks and imbalance.
  • Prepare and submit balance sheet account reconciliations monthly.
  • Prepare and settle monthly LDC invoices timely and accurately.
  • Reconcile LDC statements to internal records and prepare volume balancing files monthly.
  • Review and clear accounts receivable and payable balances related to the LDC activity.
  • Assist with internal and external audit requests.
  • Assist with special projects as required.
  • Evaluate and implement process and system changes where necessary, which includes working with IT and other stakeholder groups.
Working Conditions:
  • Open office environment
  • Hybrid work model (Corporate office vs Home office)
  • Overtime required as needed during close cycle or for special projects.
  • Minimum to no travel required.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree with major in finance or accounting
  • MBA or CPA designation an asset but not required.
  • 5+ years in general accounting, finance, or data analytics
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skillset.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with all levels of internal and external customers.
  • Ability to identify risk and areas for process improvement.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented culture.
  • Experience in a fast-paced environment and the ability to meet tight deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, especially enhanced Excel skills.
  • Experience with SAP or similar ERP system is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the gas wholesale and retail energy markets is a plus.

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proactive, solid analytical and technical skillset.
  • Excellent attention to detail, highly organized with and initiative-taking approach.
  • Strong accounting discipline in respect to journal entries and the effect to the income statement and balance sheet.
  • Strong people skills and the demonstrated ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written)

Physical Requirements:

  • Required to sit and/or stand at desk for extended periods of time working on a computer.
