What You Will Do:

GFT is seeking a Senior-Level Environmental Scientist to join our Practice in Orlando, FL or Tallahassee, FL This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance in our offices.

We excel in designing building and transportation infrastructure, addressing landslides, sinkholes, mine subsidence, slope stability, and seepage issues.

What you'll be challenged to do:

In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Collect, analyze, and report data related to biological natural sciences such as habitats, wildlife, water quality, soils, etc.to support NEPA project documents and permit applications.
  • Field delineate and characterize wetlands in accordance with federal and state criteria
  • Conduct protected floral and faunal surveys
  • Collect, analyze, and report data on potential contamination and hazardous materials
  • Prepare permit applications (e.g. environmental resource permits, Section 404 and 408 permits, local agency natural resource permits)
  • Work with engineering team members to identify and resolve transportation project challenges
  • Use ArcPro software (GIS) for data collection, analysis, and compilation of data and exhibits for reports
  • Assist the firm in other capacities when needed, such as public involvement activities
Education | Experience:
What you will bring to our firm:
  • Minimum 4-year college level degree in biology, environmental science, or equivalent science-based degree.
  • 5 plus years of experienceworking in the natural environmental field, such as environmental resource permitting and/or federal Section 404 permitting, wetland surveys and assessments, protected species surveys, preparing natural environmental documentation for NEPA compliance.
  • Ability to travel/drive to company offices and field assignments within the state of Florida with occasional overnight stays.Some days may require early start times.
  • Public speaking capabilities to participate in professional presentations and Q&As.
  • Past experience with linear transportation projects is ideal, and past experience with FDOT projects is a big .
  • Proficiency in the skills and responsibilities .
  • Knowledge of Florid's ecological communities and classifications, floral and faunal species.

  • Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, detail-oriented, ability to transition between multiple work assignments on a regular basis, and sense of urgency to meet client deadlines.
  • A strong work ethic with the desire to learn and achieve.
  • Ability to work in Florida's challenging outdoor environment.
  • Mentor junior environmental staff to nurture their knowledge and growth.
  • Flexibility in work environments and ability/openness to work as in-house consultant staff for state agencies, either in-person or virtually.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, ArcPro/GIS proficiency and GPS-applications preferred.
  • Authorized Gopher Tortoise Agent, PWS (Prof Wetlands Scientist), GISP (GIS Professional) preferred.
Compensation:
The salary range for this role is $95,000 - $130,000. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
