Description Summary:

This position is for a Mechanical Architect, responsible for leading data center related mechanical design and form factor definition across our portfolio. To fill this role, we are hiring a Principal Engineer to work in our Infrastructure Solutions Group (ISG). Lenovo's ISG is innovating the future-defined data center today. From the simplest to the most complex IT environments for all types of workloads, our servers, storage, networking and solutions help maximize the potential of data centers.

The candidate selected for this position will become an important part of the ISG Systems Architecture Board, responsible for the design, development and implementation of all ThinkSystem servers, with a strong focus on mechanical solution to support whole product portfolio. As a member of this team, you will engage with some of the industry's most influential experts and work with the most important technology companies. The successful candidate will be a proven technical leader and innovator, with high energy and passion for leading our global engineering teams.

Responsibilities:

* Drive system architecture with a focus on mechanical solution to accommodate the latest technology and system solutions and provide deep expertise on new mechanical solution feasibility including focus on reliability, material, rack level solution integration, liquid cooled solution integration, and component mechanical spec for ISG server products.

* Lead the server system mechanical roadmap maintenance to drive 3-5 years of mechanical solution and system/component form factor planning

* Review and approve component and system mechanical specifications across the product portfolio

* Review system designs with customers and partners to establish an "outside-in" view

* Collaborate closely with marketing and system architect for product portfolio definition as well as lead the mechanical solution design for conceptual deliverables

* Review and approve system mechanical designs

* Identify server mechanical critical technical skills and support key talent training for technical leadership

* Be a key partner and industry committee strategy communicator to track and influence server system mechanical industry trends

* Review and approve test plans to ensure mechanical reliability assurance

* Ensure the correct implementation of functions and achievement of customer experience goals

Basic Qualifications:

* At least 10 years' experience serving as mechanical technical leader or architect for large engineering team on multiple form factor server product development

* Expert knowledge of multiple server product system layout and mechanical solution designs with a solid foundation in mechanical engineering concepts and knowledge

* Expert in Creo, Windchill SW application for product design and capable of utilizing MCAD software for solid modeling, sheet metal design, injection-molded plastics, and water loop designs

* Experience creating multiple server product mechanical solutions and reference designs

* Ability to think broadly and to assess and clearly communicate design tradeoffs, including cost, performance, quality, serviceability and customer experience

* Ability to work as an agile, creative thinker with a strong understanding of both business and technical aspects of system designs

* Demonstrated success in collaborating and providing cross-functional leadership and build strong working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders

* Self-starter who can see the larger picture and operate with a high degree of autonomy including an ability to navigate ambiguity even on challenging problems and drive results in a complex, high growth environment to deliver solutions

* Work with worldwide development team and ability to travel to other development and manufacturing sites, supplier factories, and/or customer locations

* Utmost levels of integrity and professionalism

Preferred Qualifications:

* Broad knowledge of system design, including Power, Thermal, and Mechanical

* Experience designing systems to support high TDP accelerators, including GPUs, FPGAs, OAMs, and liquid cooled solutions

* Executive presence: comfortable making executive-level presentations, navigate complex and complicated situations, and able to positively influence multiple stakeholders
