Job Description
Kansas City Athletics is seeking applications for the role of an experienced Certified Athletic Trainer. UMKC is a NCAA Division I University that competes in the Summit League Conference. The primary sport responsibility will be Men's Soccer, including travel to team events and weekend coverage. The Athletic Trainer may be responsible for mentorship of Athletic Training Students. Basic Functions & Responsibilities: Under administrative direction, responsible for assisting in the operation of the athletic training facilities, as well as the direct medical care of men's soccer student-athletes, including aiding medical and coaching personnel with the prevention and treatment of athletically related injuries incurred by student-athletes. Essential Functions: * Assist with operation of sports medicine facilities. * Provide daily treatment and rehabilitation of men's soccer student-athletes. * Prepare and maintain various records, reports and information on injuries, treatments, etc. for insurance, legal and/or professional purposes. * Attend scheduled team practices and competitions, including home and away events in both the fall and spring semester seasons. * Communicate with team physicians, supervisors, coaches and extended medical staff, to ensure proper evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of injured student athletes. * Communicate effectively with coaches/administrators/student-athletes regarding injuries and playing status. * Collaborate with strength & conditioning, performance staff, nutrition, mental health, and coaching staff to support a holistic, high-performance model for men's soccer student-athletes * Participate in return-to-play, return-to-train, and load management discussions using best-practice performance principles * Experience utilizing or willingness to learn sports medicine and athlete management systems (e.g., EMR platforms, GPS/load monitoring data, or wellness tracking tools) to inform injury prevention and return-to-play decisions * Willingness to travel extensively, including postseason and championship competition, and provide medical coverage during non-traditional training periods (camps) * Assist with coverage, treatment and rehab as schedule allows with other varsity sports. Support for continuing education, professional certifications, and conference attendance consistent with departmental resources. * Commitment to excellence, accountability, and student-athlete well-being within a highly competitive Division I environment * Display honesty, integrity, and ethical behavior * Remain current on all state and national requirements for certification and license renewal. * Performs other duties and special projects as requested and assigned by the Athletic Director, Deputy Athletic Director for Internal Operations, and/or Head Athletic Trainer.
Minimum Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in related/relevant area and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary
Preferred Qualifications
* BOC Certification, along with eligibility for licensure as an Athletic Trainer in the state of Missouri * Current CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, BLS Provider, or equivalent. * Master's degree in athletic training or related field. * Experience working with collegiate or elite-level soccer athletes. * Knowledgeable about Evidence-Based Best Practice Guidelines as well as current trends in sports medicine * Certification or experience with manual therapy techniques. * Experience as a preceptor for a CAATE-Accredited Athletic Training Program. * Must have demonstrated knowledge of NCAA rules and sports medicine standards of care, ability to apply NATA/BOC code of ethics to care, excellent organizational skills, strong communication skills, and strong commitment to professional growth, demonstrated experience working effectively in a diverse environment, and experience working in a comprehensive sports medicine environment. * Preference will be given to candidates that meet the progressive needs of the Kansas City Sports Medicine Team.
Anticipated Hiring Range
$52,916 - $80,000 annually, commensurate with education, experience, and internal equity
