STS Technical Services is hiring Heliarc Welders in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to support precision welding of aerospace sheet-metal components. This is an entry-level GTAW TIG welding role that includes on-the-job training and required certifications.

This position is limited to Class B and Class C welds only. Class A welding is not permitted in this role.


Job Summary

The Heliarc Welder position focuses on TIG welding light-gauge aerospace components in a production environment. Welders must meet all company, customer, and government certification requirements and maintain strict quality and safety standards throughout the manufacturing process.


Job Responsibilities

  • Assemble and weld aerospace components in accordance with engineering drawings, customer requirements, and company standards
  • Set up and operate manual and mechanized welding equipment
  • Perform production welding using GTAW TIG processes
  • Interpret engineering drawings, weld symbols, and technical specifications
  • Perform welding assignments at acceptable quality and productivity levels
  • Identify welding defects and troubleshoot issues with guidance from a Journeyman Welder, Lead, or Supervisor
  • Fabricate shop aids and purge fixtures as required
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and FOD-free work environment
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or trade school welding certificate, or equivalent experience
  • Manufacturing experience may be considered in place of formal education
  • Minimum six months of TIG GTAW welding experience on light-gauge materials ranging from .010 inches to .250 inches
  • Demonstrated certification experience welding stainless steel and nickel alloys

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, weld symbols, and work orders
  • Proficiency with manual and mechanized welding equipment, including circumferential positioners and longitudinal seamers
  • Ability to set up weld tooling and fixtures
  • Skilled in the use of precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, and tape measures
  • Ability to work within tight tolerances
  • Capable of performing welding tasks with minimal supervision after training
  • Ability to recognize, troubleshoot, and correct welding issues
  • Strong attention to detail and cleanliness
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to produce high-quality work in a safe and efficient manner

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently lift up to 35 pounds
  • Frequent reaching at or above shoulder height, pushing, and pulling
  • Occasional bending, stooping, and squatting
  • Frequent sitting, standing, and walking
  • Occasional computer use
  • Continuous use of hands and arms
  • Continuous exposure to manufacturing shop noise

Special Requirements

  • Must pass a visual acuity exam with 20 30 vision or better, corrected or uncorrected, in each eye
  • Must obtain AWS D17.1 certification in stainless steel and Inconel within 60 days of hire
