***CANDIDATE MUST BE ABLE TO WORK A HYBRID SCHEDULE IN CHESAPEAKE, VA***

We are seeking a Front-End Developer / UI Engineer to design, build, and maintain modern, accessible web interfaces that balance strong engineering practices with thoughtful UI design. This role emphasizes front-end development with a heavy focus on Section 508 / WCAG compliance, while also requiring the ability to collaborate on and contribute to UI design work using modern design tools.

In addition to delivering accessible, responsive user interfaces, this role plays a key part in raising overall front-end and accessibility maturity across teams by sharing knowledge, providing guidance, and training other developers on accessibility best practices. The ideal candidate works closely with UX, product, and engineering partners in a SAFe Agile environment to support consistent, compliant, and user-centered solutions across applications.

As with any position, additional expectations exist. Some of these include, but are not limited to, adhering to normal working hours, meeting deadlines, following company policies as outlined by the Employee Handbook, communicating regularly with assigned supervisor(s), staying focused on the assigned tasks, and completing other tasks as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Review requirements and user stories to identify front-end impacts, accessibility considerations, and implementation risks
  • Design and build front-end solutions that align with modernization objectives and accessibility standards
  • Assist in creation of UI assets, interaction states, and design documentation to support development
  • Provide guidance and training to other developers on Section 508 / WCAG requirements, including sharing best practices, reviewing implementations, and supporting consistent adoption of accessible front-end patterns across teams
  • Contribute to and consume shared component libraries and design systems to ensure consistency across applications
  • Collaborate with developers to ensure design feasibility and accurate implementation
  • Share knowledge, best practices, and accessibility guidance with team members, helping raise overall front-end maturity
  • Contribute to design system components, patterns, and guidelines
  • Ensure consistency across applications and align designs with modernization objectives
  • Conduct code reviews and ensure front-end code adheres to established standards, best practices, and accessibility guidelines
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve UI and front-end issues in a timely manner
  • Support usability and accessibility testing efforts, addressing findings and iterating on solutions
  • Ensure all front-end development complies with security, handling, and data-protection guidelines
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product owners, developers, testers, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions
  • Participate in SAFe Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives
  • Communicate effectively with customers, stakeholders, and team members
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications

  • US Citizenship
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance or eligible to obtain
  • 6+ years of experience in web or interface design
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Web Development, UX/UI, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Level 1 or higher IAT Certification (A+ CE, Security+, CCNA-Security, CND, Network+ CE, SSCP) or ability to obtain
  • Demonstrated strong front-end development experience, with Blazor preferred (or comparable modern frameworks)
  • Proficiency with modern front-end technologies, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and component-based frameworks such as Material, Fluent, or Kendo UI
  • Demonstrated Section 508 / WCAG compliance experience in building accessible web interfaces
  • Solid understanding of responsive design principles and cross-browser compatibility
  • Experience working in Agile or SAFe development environments
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with designers, developers, and product stakeholders
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work with Jira, Confluence, SharePoint, or similar collaboration tools
  • Comfortable working both independently and in a collaborative team environment, maintaining productivity and accountability in both settings
  • If applicable: If you are or have been recently employed by the U.S. government, a post-employment ethics letter will be required if employment with VSolvit is offered

Optional but encouraged: Candidates may provide a portfolio or examples of front-end implementations demonstrating accessibility and UI quality. Examples of complex applications or modernization of legacy systems are ideal.

  • Familiarity with secure development environments and constraints on classified systems
  • Experience designing for enterprise applications or systems with complex workflows
  • Working knowledge of .NET-based front-end or full-stack environments
  • Familiarity with design systems, component libraries, and accessibility-focused UI patterns
  • Experience using design tools such as Figma or Adobe Creative Suite to create and iterate on new designs, prototypes, and UI specifications in collaboration with UX partners
