Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Distribution Planning Engineer to lead and support DER impact studies within our electric utility distribution planning team. This role is critical to ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient integration of distributed energy resources (DERs) such as solar PV, energy storage, and electric vehicles into the distribution grid. This position can be located in the following office locations:

  • Any ENERCON Office
  • Remote within the US

Responsibilities

Imagine a day where you lead and support DER impact studies that shape the future of energy. Your work not only drives meaningful change - it empowers progress and inspires innovation.

  • DER Analysis & Impact Studies: Conduct detailed DER impact studies to assess hosting capacity, voltage regulation, thermal loading, protection coordination, and power quality. Collaborate with interconnection teams to evaluate DER applications and provide technical recommendations. Support grid modernization initiatives including non-wires alternatives, advanced inverter functionality, and DERMS integration
  • Modeling & Simulation: Perform steady-state and dynamic simulations using industry-standard tools (e.g., WindMil, CYME, Synergi). Develop and maintain distribution system models and perform scenario analyses to support planning decisions
  • Communication & Documentation: Prepare technical reports, presentations, and documentation for internal stakeholders and regulatory filings
  • Mentorship & Process Improvement: Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement of planning processes and methodologies

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • Typically requires 6 years of experience in electric utility distribution planning, with a focus on DER integration
  • Strong understanding of distribution system operations, protection, and planning principles
  • Proficiency in power system analysis software (e.g., WindMil, CYME, Synergi)
  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks and interconnection standards (e.g., IEEE 1547, FERC, NERC)
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and project management skills
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
  • Experience with hosting capacity analysis and locational value assessments preferred
  • Knowledge of DERMS, AMI, and ADMS systems preferred
  • Experience working with utilities, developers, and regulatory agencies preferred

Pay Range

USD $100,000.00 - USD $175,000.00 /Yr.

When salary range is listed it reflects typical compensation for this role based on level and location. Actual pay depends on experience, skills, and education.
