Position Summary

The Strategic Planning Team is responsible for supporting all parts of the organization in aligning with the overarching five-year strategic plan (www.acs.org/strategicplan). We are part of the CEO's office and work cross-functionally to turn the strategic goals into operational, achievable outcomes.

The Strategy Intern will support the strategic planning team in assessing progress toward achieving organizational objectives. The position requires familiarity with the concepts of business strategy as well as excellent people and information-gathering skills. The outcome of the internship will be to produce a white paper with assessments and recommendations.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Work directly with strategic planning managers and cross-functional teams to support organizational priorities.
  • Recommend methods and gather and synthesize information from staff to help assess the status of operational plans and how to improve alignment with organization-wide goals.
  • Map and understand industry landscape and competitive dynamics.
  • Develop and deliver content to present to leadership.
  • Consider a range of design frameworks, tools, and models to advance long-term strategic goals.
  • Produce a white paper with status report and recommendations.


Education Requirements:
The Ideal candidate will be a rising college senior, recent college graduate or pursing a Masters/PhD in Business or Communications.

  • Currently pursuing a major in Business or Communications
  • You have a problem-solver mindset and a can-do attitude, and you are ready to hit the ground running.
  • You want to learn and grow with an exciting, mission-driven scientific organization.
  • You have solid judgement and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and information-gathering skills, with the ability to provide high-quality service and partner effectively across the organization.
  • Good oral and written communicator with strong research, editing, and presentation skills and attention to detail.
  • You will represent the executive leadership in a positive and professional manner in all interactions.



Pay Transparency: This role is based in our Washington, D.C. office. The following are the intended hourly rates for this part time/nonexempt role: Rising Junior-$24.00; Rising Senior-$25.00; Current Grad/PhD Student- $29.00.

Any actual offer of employment, reflecting the total compensation package and benefits, will be made in the sole discretion of ACS. ACS reserves the right to amend or modify its employment benefits and compensation structure at any time.

*This position will be primarily based in the Washington D.C. (or applicable) office. ACS employees work a hybrid work schedule, consisting of working onsite, two days per week. Schedule flexibility may be required for this role to support in-office activities. While always welcome to work in the office, employees may work the other three days of the week from a location of their choice.
