Pay Details

The Trump Kennedy Center strives to design equitable compensation programs. The projected pay range for this position is $22.00 - $25.00 per hour, commensurate with experience, and includes a comprehensive benefits package. This is the targeted range of possible compensation for this role at the time of posting. This range may be modified in the future. Base pay within the range is ultimately determined by a candidate's skills, expertise, and experience as it relates to the position qualifications and responsibilities.

Job Description

Supervises, organizes and coordinates payroll, scheduling and other administrative support for the usher staff. Provides oversight of ushers, doormen, hall attendants, coat room attendants, ushers' desk supervisors, lounge ushers, ALD desk ushers and special events ushers.

In all areas of responsibility, the Coordinator will ensure a high degree of customer service and will incorporate various approaches to meeting needs of a widely diverse staff, demonstrating patience, creativity, and problem-solving capabilities with available resources. The Coordinator has frequent interaction with Kennedy Center colleagues as well as members of the general public and must be highly effective in interpersonal communications and in responding to potential problems with tact and diplomacy.

The work week for this position is Tues-Sat, 10 AM - 6:30 PM. Must be able to work odd hours including evenings, weekends, occasional holidays and occasional work beyond a 40-hour week. Must have the ability to stand for long periods of time and to move quickly from one part of the building to another.

Key Responsibilities



  • Provide full payroll support for approximately 500 part-time employees. Collect, review, approve and accurately enter all payroll information for ushers working in theaters. Monitor ushers working outside of theaters; determine hours worked and accurately enter payroll information. Collect and turn-in direct deposit requests from ushers. Distribute paychecks on bi-weekly basis. Mail direct deposit slips and unclaimed paychecks. Generate payroll reports as required.
  • Coordinate, fill and monitor all usher requests for special events and other non-performance requirements. Review usher requests to ensure proper staffing and coverage for event. Coordinate schedules for all Tour and Theater Security, coatroom, lounge and ALD Desk ushers and ensure all positions are filled. Post sub slips and find replacement ushers as needed.
  • Complete all HR required documentation for ushers, including new hires and ushers whose employment has ended. Ensure all documents are prepared properly and turned in to HR in a timely manner. File all appropriate documents in personnel folders. Maintain historical records for ushers whose employment has ended. Maintain Usher Services database of ushers, including updating individual files as needed. Collect and turn in to HR all address change forms. Maintain training records for all ushers.
  • Maintain the Ushers' Master Schedule, updating monthly (or as needed) and distributing to all ushers. Notify ushers of changes in work requirements or work hours. Prepare, print and distribute monthly schedules for school performances, coatroom, Tour/Memorial, lounge, and ALD Desk shifts to all ushers working those performances.
  • Assist in monitoring the activities of approximately 500 part-time employees including ushers, doormen, hall attendants, coat room attendants, ushers' desk supervisors, lounge ushers, ALD desk ushers and special events ushers. Review staffing levels and recommend adjustments as needed to carry out successful and smoothly executed public events.
  • Assist in providing group training for all new ushers on customer service requirements and proper procedures. Instruct and assist new hires in processing intake documentation consisting of state and federal tax forms, direct deposit authorization, retirement election forms, credit union membership election and emergency contact file information. Educate new employees regarding pay, benefits, personnel policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Key Qualifications



  • Associate's Degree in Business or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Two or more years of administrative support experience with increasing responsibility in a customer service environment.
  • The incumbent must have business office experience for handling daily correspondence and other paperwork requirements.
  • Experience with computers, Microsoft Office Suite and Lawson payroll.
  • Strong organizational skills, accuracy, attention to detail and ability to respond to changing priorities and situations required.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills; telephone etiquette.
  • Flexible and able to work well with a widely diverse usher staff, members of the public, upper management and VIPs.
  • Patience and a willingness to handle difficult situations tactfully and appropriately.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to maintain professionalism and a positive service attitude at all times.
  • Must present a professional demeanor and appearance.
  • Provides oversight by coaching and counseling employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
  • Candidate must be local or willing to relocate to the DMV area. Relocation assistance is not provided.
  • Candidate must be willing to work onsite.
