Public Records Analyst - Corporation Counsel


Hourly Pay Range: $28.21 - $42.30

The Office of Corporation Counsel (OCC) acts as general counsel for Milwaukee County, which includes its departments, boards, committees, and elected officials concerning a wide range of civil legal issues that impact the County and the public.



Job Summary: The Public Records Analyst is primarily responsible for providing expert guidance and technical support to public records custodians across Milwaukee County in compliance with Wisconsin's Public Records Law while also serving as OCC's designated public records custodian.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  1. Reviews, coordinates, and responds to high-profile and complex public records requests submitted to Milwaukee County authorities and custodians. Maintains a deep understanding of applicable statutes, case law, and Milwaukee County ordinances and policies, while ensuring consistent application of the same. May be expected to participate in training opportunities offered to Milwaukee County officials.
  2. Responsible for receiving, analyzing, and responding to all requests for public records for which OCC is the responsible authority, and will coordinate with OCC attorneys and other Milwaukee County officials and employees whenever necessary. When receiving any request for which OCC is not the appropriate authority, the Public Records Analyst will coordinate between the requester and any appropriate Milwaukee County authorities or custodians to ensure the request is appropriately processed. Corresponds and communicates directly with requesters and will frequently collaborate with OCC attorneys when doing so.
  3. Contribute to OCC's internal process and procedure improvements, work to advance OCC's strategic plan, and participate in internal work groups related to our practice areas and efforts to ensure continued successful delivery of legal services.
  4. Participate in interdepartmental work groups as a representative of OCC as may be required. Assume other duties as may be assigned.



Minimum Requirements:



  • Must be a current resident of Wisconsin
  • Must possess a Bachelor's degree
  • Intermediate knowledge of typical computer and software applications, such as word processing and spreadsheets.
