About the role

Position Description: The Environmental Technician will be responsible for supporting regulatory compliance and implementing and maintaining environmental management systems and programs for air, solid waste and water regulatory requirements, under direction of the facility's Environmental Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • EPA and Air Regulations - Maintains records and reports required under state and federal air regulations. Assists in renewal processes applicable to air permits and/or evaluation processes of same. This position involves tasks such as: performing environmental compliance assessments; documenting compliance status and making recommendations on corrective action required to achieve compliance; and providing guidance and training on managing compliance
  • Permits & Regulatory Correspondence - Developing appropriate compliance reports for review by the facility's Environmental Manager. These reports include various monitoring programs including, air, ash sampling/handling, solid waste, wastewater, stormwater, spill plan, hazardous waste, and universal waste.
  • Data Integrity and Analysis - Working with facility staff, analyze compliance data, identify compliance trends, and propose local and systematic solutions to current and future compliance issues.
  • Regulatory Trend Updates - Monitoring regulatory changes affecting operations in the area(s) of responsibility and track emerging regulatory trends that may impact operations.
  • Program and Process Improvements - Improving overall existing environmental compliance programs, procedures and policies, recommending compliance software enhancements and integrating air quality compliance into overall company initiatives and efforts. Supports maintaining the facility's Environmental Management Information System (EMIS).
  • Air Compliance Testing - Coordinating with all required staff, attending and/or supervising air compliance testing efforts at operating facilities and preparing reports and amendments as required under state and federal air permits.
  • Ash Sample Testing- Coordinates with corporate and facility personnel to plan and support ash residue testing. This includes the review and analysis of laboratory reports, providing and/or facilitating training, and processing samples.
  • Solid & Special Waste Programs - Working with Corporate and facility personnel to maintain compliance under the solid waste operating permit and special waste disposal authorization plan. This includes reviewing shipment documents for completeness, QA/QC loads, filing relevant discrepancy paperwork and relaying any special characteristics to plant personnel regarding waste composition.

Position Requirements:

The successful candidate must have a high school diploma or equivalent with at least one year of related experience, to include knowledge of applicable government regulations, or a bachelor's degree in a related field. Knowledge of air quality regulations, Title V permitting, emissions reporting, and federal/state/local air emissions is desired.

The individual must have strong written and oral communication skills, an ability to work cooperatively within the regulatory framework, and strong computer skills including proficiency with MS Office applications.

Must be able to work in all locations within the plant, under extremes of hot and cold, and in areas of dust,noiseand wet conditions. Must be able towear a respirator,climb a ladder to access equipment and work from heights using fall protection,lift heavy objects and other manual labor to includingpushing, pulling,sweeping,and shoveling.Reworld is a smoke free worksite.
