Position Summary:

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Associate Financial Analyst.The Associate Financial Analyst will play a key role in managing accounting, financial analysis, and general ledger functions for the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Pharmacology. Reporting to the Manager, this position requires a highly organized and resourceful professional who is detail-oriented and thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional communication skills, professionalism, and the ability to manage multiple time-sensitive tasks efficiently. This role also demands flexibility, initiative, and the ability to handle dynamic priorities with reliability and accuracy.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Post- award review of all extramural funding including government and non-government grants, and contracts to assure institutional and sponsor compliance, budgetary and expenditures appropriateness. Prepare, analyze and review Grant Status Reports and Trial balances on a monthly basis.
  • Works with Department Administrator and Director of Finance to monitor all lab budgets and troubleshoot problems identified from reports.
  • Provides financial analysis as needed to support an annual review of all departmental faculty effort and federal time and effort reporting. Provides financial analysis for special programs as needed.
  • Proposes, then implements, efficient process and workflow improvements.
  • Assists with day-to-day Accounts Payable and Purchasing for the department. On occasion, troubleshoots purchasing and payable issues with Accounts Payable, Purchasing, and Compliance departments. Liaise with central administration (AP, Research Finance, etc) to resolve problems identified from financial reports.
  • Monitors discretionary budgets on monthly basis and conducts variance analysis of budget vs. actuals.
  • Prepare Journal Vouchers as need before the financial month and year end close. Prepare Cost Transfers to move allocable costs. Perform ad hoc financial analysis and scenario analysis to support departmental decisions.
  • Review and process salary reallocations and ensure the correct allocation of personnel on grants and other funds based on the yearly financial plan and grant budgets for the investigators.
  • Develop yearly business plans for Principal Investigators and their labs. Coordinate effort reports for quarterly review.
  • Review and approve invoices and purchase requisitions for both federal and non federal grants and review adherence to NIH policies.
  • Review P-Card charges for compliance to federal and NYUGSOM policy.
  • Prepare closeout packages for final reports and quarterly billing invoices. Facilitate all financial reporting requirements, this includes interim and final reports, and facilitate account close out activities.
  • Maintain interface with Departmental Administrator, Director of Finance, and Principal Investigators to ensure adherence to approved budget including cost-shared salaries, purchases of capital equipment, and variances in budget allocations.
  • Forecast expected budget balances or deficits based on current prorated spending. Support the departments finance strategy through financial forecasting and budgeting.
  • Responsible for the analytical review of the grants to ensure all expenditures reported are in compliance with regulations set by institutional policies and federal and non-federal sponsors.
  • Participates in internal development opportunities.

Minimum Qualifications:

To qualify you must have a Bachelor Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or related field, with 1-3 years relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Superior communication skills, both written and verbal. Possess strong customer service and problem solving skill sets.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $66,300.00 - $73,140.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
